  2. Location • The Inuits live in: • Canada • Greenland • Alaska, United States • Aleutian Islands • Siberia, Russia Russia North America

  3. Food • Inuit's and their food: • Inuits are hunters • Fish • Sea mammals (seals, whale, walrus) • Few land mammals (caribou, polar bear, birds, arctic hare) • Bannock (traditional bread)

  4. Shelter • Inuit housing: • Igloos (common winter houses) • Skin Tents (common in summer) • Stone Houses (common in Greenland) • Driftwood and Earth houses (common in Siberia) Seal-Skin Tents

  5. Movement • Types of transportation: • Sleds (frame, plank) • Boats (Kayaks, Umiaks) • Frame sleds used in Alaska and Siberia • Plank sleds used in Canada and Greenland • Kayaks used for hunting • Umiaks used for long trips • Sleds were powered by dogs

  6. Outer Clothing • Outer Clothing Includes: • Hooded Jacket • Mittens • Trousers • Boots Inuit’s outer clothing was mostly made of Caribou skin

  7. Inner Clothing • Inner Clothing Includes: • Hooded Jacket • Trousers • Socks Inuit’s inner clothing was made mostly of seal skin.

  8. Region • The regions of the Inuit: • Arctic (harshest region in the world) • Sub arctic (very cold, below freezing) • Climate (long cold winters, short cool summers) • Average temperature = -20 degrees F, -30 degrees F • Snowfall (15-90inches a year)

  9. Inuit Art • Inuits carved every day objects • Inuits made mostly animals in their art • Inuits designed some of their art with clothing

  10. Sports/Recreation • Sports the intuits' played are: • Weightlifting & wrestling • Football & ice hockey • Entertainment (drumming, dancing, dice game, throat singing) The inuit’s also possessed their own games

  11. Skills, Tools, and Products • Skilled Carvers (Bow drills) • Knives (bone, wood, ivory) • Skilled Fishers (harpoons) • Stone tied on a branch for hammer • Making Jewelry (Inuit Bling) • Painters • Art

  12. Social Customs • Inuit social customs: • Language (Inupik and Yupik) • Marriage (individual choice)

  13. Place • What the place is like: • Cold • Normally Snow covered (tundra) • Near Water (i.e. Pacific Ocean) The Frozen Tundra Pacific Ocean

Human/Environment Interaction • The Inuit’s interacted with their environment by: • Igloos (homes made out of mounds of snow) • Clothing (made from animals in the region) • Hunting tools (made from common resources such as wood) • Food (came from animals and fish) • Transportation (dog sleds and kayaks)
