  1. What We’ve Been Learning! Math Literacy Last month we began working on writing our numbers the correct way, counting objects, and simple addition problems. We use counters to help us solve word problems. We also use mental strategies to help us count on in our head when adding. We understand that addends can change order and still equal the same sum. This month we will begin working on subtraction concepts as well. Any reinforcement at home with practicing addition facts to 10 will be helpful! Look out for more resources coming home to help in the upcoming weeks. Last month we reviewed all of our short vowel sounds. We are working on reading to ourselves independently while using reading strategies. We know the pictures can help us to figure out words we do not know. We know to think about beginning sounds, and which words would make sense in our sentences. We began writing our first books during Writing Workshop. Our topics have been about “small moments” happening in our lives. During Writing Workshop he plan for our writing, use pictures to help us describe our writing, and write in complete sentences. We’re doing a fine job! Notes and Reminders! Please remember to send in a labeled sweatshirt with your child in case of inclement weather during emergencies. We will begin Show and Tell during the month of October. Five different students will be chosen each Friday to bring in something to share with the class. Please make sure their object of choice fits securely in their back pack! We will begin the Book-It Program this month. Watch for more information to be sent home. When helping your child with homework at home, please assist them in writing their numbers and letters the correct way. Practice makes perfect!  Save the Dates Special Thanks Thank you to everyone who has donated snacks to us so far this year! We are always accepting boxes of crackers or pretzels.
