Challenges associated with DG Contracts management • Project Planning and Support from the Region • Crucial from DG Applications stage through to closing of projects • Recruitment of learners and Induction • not to be delayed- be done soon after submitting MoAs • Learners be given full induction – must know rules and requirements • Workplace approval status • Apprenticeships Programmes : Prior Approval by CHIETA or Other SETAs • Learnerships: Signed Agreements with identified workplaces • Learner Contracts be completed in full and accurately • with supporting documents – copied be legible and certified • Accurate names of programmes and codes • Accurate start and end dates • Change requests • Not ideal – they disrupt plans, targets set and signal delays • within 3 months of MoA submission • Before Tranche 1b is processed

Other Regional Projects/Updates 2016 Grants awarded to support public institutions: • UWC: 110 undergraduate bursaries, 150 grade 11 and 12 learners with maths and science tuition classes, 10 masters learners. • UCT: Curriculum development – Post Graduate Diploma in Cosmetic Science, small pieces of equipment needed in the lab. • CPUT: 70 WIL opportunities , 50 second chance learners (maths and science), small pieces of equipment needed in the labs. • TVET Colleges: 240 learners - WIL, Skills Programmes, Apprenticeships, Learnerships. 30 Lecturers – Lecturer development.

Other Regional Projects/Updates 2016 • Northern Cape Rural TVET: 84 exiting N2 and NCV learners to undergo CBMT/phase training at the newly built training centre in Namaqualand. • Sol Plaaitjie University : 10 Bursaries • Saldanha Bay IDZ: 190 Learners – Apprenticeships, Learnerships and Skills programmes. • Municipalities: 66 Learners – Apprenticeships and Learnerships

  14. General • Project interns- for overseeing CHIETA funded projects. Apply during June funding window. • BBBEE scorecard points – 20 plus 5 bonus points can be scored if skills development is implemented according to the priority elements. • Tax breaks for learnership and apprenticeship implementation. • MOAs are for 18 months. No extensions.
