  2. What makes up a State? Government! • There are four characteristics that make up a state Population! Sovereignty! Territory!

  3. Where does government come from?

  4. What about the origins of power? • Which form of power do all governments need to keep order? • All governments need some form of coercion in conjunction with another power source to effectively rule a society.

  5. Authoritarian vs Democratic Expecting or requiring people to obey rules or laws : not allowing personal freedom Based on a form of government in which the people choose leaders by voting : relating to the idea that all people should be treated equally

  6. Political Spectrum: An Intro Authoritarian Democratic A political spectrum, or continuum, can be used in government or economics to visualize how far one ideology, theory, or concept is from one another.

  7. Relationship in Government -Federalism is a system of government in which entities such as states or provinces share power with a national government. The United States government functions according to the principles of federalism. -The definition of a unitary government or unitary state is a system of political organization with a central supreme government which holds the authority over and makes the decisions for subordinate local governments. -When a group of people or nations form an alliance, it is called a confederation, allowing each member to govern itself but agreeing to work together for common causes.
