  3. Where Does the Time Go? • There are ONLY so many hours in a day • Are YOU in control of your time? • Take the self-evaluation to determine how you use your time • Review your answers • Determine the amount of time each week spent

  4. What is Time Management? • Making the best use of your time • Time management means managing yourself • Understanding your current habits • Setting realistic goals for yourself • Dealing with large projects efficiently • Finding ways to overcome procrastination • Tips for getting organized

  5. Why is Time Management so Important? • Tool you NEED to be successful in school and life • Allows for MORE free time • Helps BALANCE life… enjoy work, play, school, family • Meet DEADLINES-eliminates stress

  6. Ways to Get Control of Your Time • Complete a time management sheet for one week • Evaluate your self-evaluation sheet • Create a schedule that works for you • Start at 6:00 AM to Midnight • Sunday thru Saturday

  7. How to Schedule Classes • Morning or Afternoon • Monday/ Wednesday • Monday/Wednesday/Friday • Tuesday/Thursday • Nights • Hybrid (part face to face and part online) • Face to Face or Online (Distance Learning) • Short semester classes (8 week/4 week)

Scheduling • Look at a visual picture of how much work is accumulating • 3 different types of schedules to help you stay on track • Semester schedule- use student handbook (calendar) • Weekly schedule- must do’s with classes, study, free time • Daily schedule- to do list-daily accomplishments • Key word is to prioritize each item of importance #

Example: How to Prioritize an Assignment -# by Importance • Rearrange this list in order of importance • Write draft report • Create labeled diagram • Organize research notes • Outline report/presentation • Do research at library or online • Choose topic given for assignment • Practice presentation in front of someone • Write final report

  10. Class Attendance Policy • Class attendance policy to do well, you MUST attend class • Review the attendance policy in student handbook and on the course syllabus

Does the Three C’s Reading Strategy Help? • Helps breakdown and connect material for improved learning • Headings, words in bold, color or italics, and the first few sentences of paragraphs • Connect (skim-titles, headings, boxes, charts, bold words) • Cards (3x5 flash cards, write question on front, answer on back) • Commit ( carry cards, review daily, repeat)

Proven Techniques • To do list-check off accomplishments • Ok to say NO and concentrate on college work • Attend class, listen, take notes • Start projects early • Set goals, break down task into smaller parts • Take advantage of holidays, fall breaks • Determine best time to study (day or night) • Eliminate distractions-TV, calls, emails, texting, etc. • 10 minute timer for tough assignments
