  5. History • Started in 2005 • Volunteers for the Olympics • Now3,500 Registered Volunteers • 80,000 hours volunteering 2011/2012 • Over 60 different roles • Ministerial recognition for good practice • Won Queens Jubilee Volunteering award 2012

Working in a team • Working in team is at the heart of being a Newham’s Volunteers • Exercise • You have 10 straws to build the tallest free standing structure • You must not use anything but the straws you have been given • For the first 2 minutes, you must not do any building, only planning • You have 10 minutes in total • Start planning!
