Drive Chain

The Chain drive is described by the Greek engineer. In these two flat chains are directly connected to the windlass. chain drives are used to transfer mechanical power from one place to another place. It is the power transmission product. A drive chain consists of a number of chains covered around two sprockets. Sprockets Contain multiple teeth around it which helps to grip the chain. It contains two shafts at a particular distance so that sprockets takings the place of gears and drive so that chain passing through over the sprocket teeth.

  1. Chain Drive · What is Chain Drive? The Chain drive is described by the Greek engineer. In these two flat chains are directly connected to the windlass. chain drives are used to transfer mechanical power from one place to another place. It is the power transmission product. A drive chain consists of a number of chains covered around two sprockets. Sprockets Contain multiple teeth around it which helps to grip the chain. It contains two shafts at a particular distance so that sprockets takings the place of gears and drive so that chain passing through over the sprocket teeth. The advantage of the chain drive is the speed ratio remains constant. In these multiple links are connected by pins and chain is produced. Conveyor belts are commonly used chains which called as blockchains which made up of laminated blocks connected by side plated as well as pins. · Advantages of Chain Drives – 1. Chain Drive can be used for long as well as short distances. 2. From a single chain number of shafts can be driven. 3. They are having small dimensions. 4. They are working at any temperature and in any environment. 5. Having very high efficiency. 6. They never slip. 7. Easy to install. 8. Having Low maintenance. 9. It Transfers higher power. · Disadvantaged of Drive Chain – 1. They cannot require lubrication frequently. 2. Used only where slip id required in the system. 3. Drive Chains to have less load capacity. 4. The operation of Chain Drive is noisy also use vibration. 5. They are not useful for non-parallel shafts, They are only useful of parallel shafts. 6. For precise motion they are not used. 7. Housing is required for Drive Chain. · Types of chain Drive – Chains Drives are classified into multiple types they are as below 1. Hoisting Chains– The hoist is used to lift the load. It is also used to shift heavy product from one place to another place in the workshop or workstation. This chains can able to handle heavyweight. Hoisting chain are also classified in two types they are Oval link chains and stud link chains Oval link Chains-

  2. As name only indicates the shape of this chain is oval. In this type of chain, many links are attached to each other. These chains are also called as coiled chains. This types of chains are generally used for low speeds. Stud Link Chain- In this, the oval link chain is fitted with the round bar to provide more strength of the chain. It is used in carrying the load in up and down position. It is used to lift very high amount of load. 2.Conveyor Chain – As the name indicated it is used in the conveyor. The conveyor is the mechanical device which is used to move material from one place to another place. The design of this kind of chain is well shaped so that it is easy to run sprocket. This type of chain is consisting of malleable cast iron use in low-speed machinery. Conveyor chains are classified into two types namely Detachable or Hook Joint types Conveyor chain – It is used in conveyor where length between power transmissions is short. Closed-end pintle type conveyor chain – It is made up of barrel and link and made in a single casting so that chain is provided higher strength 3. Power Transmission chain - The name only indicates that it is transmitting power. This type of chain is made up of steel. This type of chain has greater accuracy also these chains are able to run over sprockets. This type of chain is categorized in three types namely BlockChain- Blockchains are used in low-speed areas. When sprocket and chain get in contact they are produced sudden noise. It is used in low-speed conveyor machine Roller Chain – In this, a bush along with the roller fitted inside both the plates and then pin is passed through both the ends of roller to fast it. It is made up of steel as well as the rollers are free to rotate inside the bush so that when it contacts between sprocket the wear and tear is minimized. Mainly it is used in high-speed power transmission devices such as a motorcycle. Roller Chains are constructed by a bush, Inner link, pin, Outer plate, inner plate and rollers 4. Hauling Chain – Hauling Chains are used to carry material by sliding pulling or carrying in the conveyor. 5.Load Lifting Chain – Load Lifting Chain used for suspending, rising or lowering loads in material handling option.

  3. Use of Drive Chain – 1. Main use of Chain Drive is for transmitting power. 2. It is used to Lifting the load and carry the material. 3. This is used in various industries like – Transportation, Agriculture machinery, material handling equipment and building construction.
