  2. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction 1. Jer. 6:16 God has always recognized two attitudes in men toward His Word • Conservative: strict to follow the truth, not taking liberties in departing from it • Liberal: taking liberties not granted by God, thus departing from the truth

  3. 1. Jer. 6:16 God has always recognized two attitudes in men toward His Word 16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

  4. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction • God appeals to man to conserve or preserve what He reveals: • Jer. 6:16 “the old paths” 16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths…

  5. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction • God appeals to man to conserve or preserve what He reveals: • 2 Tim. 1:13 “the form of sound words” 13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.

  6. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction • God appeals to man to conserve or preserve what He reveals: • Jude 3 “the faith…once delivered” 3 Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

  7. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction 3. God warns man not to be liberal minded in departing from what He reveals: • Jer. 6:16 “we will not walk therein” 16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths…. But they said, We will not walk therein.

  8. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction 3. God warns man not to be liberal minded in departing from what He reveals: • Gal. 1:6-9 “pervert the gospel”

  9. 6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: 7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. • Gal. 1:6-9 • Gal. 1:6-9 “pervert the gospel”

  10. TWO ATTITUDES TOWARD GOD’S WORD:CONSERVATIVE & LIBERAL • Jer. 6:16 • Introduction 3. 12. 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: 11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds. • 2 Jn. 9-11 “abideth not in the doctrine of Christ”
