Rivers and Tributary Systems • 3 major river systems • The Allegheny • Western PA • Actually consists of 3 major rivers • The Allegheny • The Ohio • The Monongahela • Major rivers of commerce • The Susquehanna • Northeastern PA • Starts in NY • Flows south through the entire state of PA • Too shallow for boats to travel on  • The Delaware • Eastern PA • Forms a natural border with New Jersey • Philadelphia • Located on the Delaware • Major deep water port

Lakes and Wetlands • Lakes • There are more than 2000 small lakes in PA • Most were created by glaciers • Biggest Lakes in PA • Pymatuning Reservoir • Raystown Lake • Lake Wallenpaupack • Wetlands • Lowland areas, such as marshy or swampy places that hold moisture • Excellent habitats for wildlife
