  2. What did I do? 1 Observed interviews for Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program. The interviews were to decide which classes clients were allocated based on their skills.

  3. Aim To be familiar with the process and the assessment. My mentor suggested me to observe the interviews so that I could get to know the ways the clients at Yarraville Community Centre are assessed.

  4. Outcomes Gained my knowledge how they are assessed. Gained more awareness of ESL learners with diverse backgrounds and Australian-born clients with low numeracy and literacy skills. Quite useful to improve my English skills.

  5. What did I do? 2 Mentored 1 Vietnamese woman in her mid 50s. Focus on pronunciation. 1 on 1 language support in class.

  6. Outcomes Motivated and engaged the student. Built a good rapport with the student. Helped the student build confidence in the student by giving encouragement and praise. The student actually used the resources I gave her in the lesson to study at home.

  7. What I felt… It was quite challenging to mentor a student for her English as I am not a native English speaker. However, I received several good feedback from the student saying ‘You really good! The lessons good. Thank you. Thank you.’ Having seen a learner’s autonomy in a student felt like a great success and it was quite engaging and motivating to me as a teacher!!!! Overall, I enjoyed the interactions with the student!!
