  2. 17  You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18  but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

  4. 17  You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, so that – with a purpose that you are not carried away lit: lest having been led away (aorist, passive, participle) carried away - to lead off or carry away with someone negative in Gal 2:13 and positive in Rom 12:16 “This points out the danger of being led astray from the right path by keeping too close company with the false teachers” Hiebert by the error of unprincipled men error – means wandering, roaming unprincipled – the idea is that of a lawless and wicked person see 2 Peter 2:7

Amen but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ What does it mean to grow in grace? • first of all we live in the sphere of grace Romans 5:2 through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God. we have as a permanent possession into this unmerited favor in which we have been placed permanently (Wuest)

Amen but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ • second this grace is heavenly focused 1 Cor 1:4, 2 Cor 9:8, 2 Tim 1:9 • but we are still to increase in our understanding of grace 1 Peter 1:2b --- :May grace and peace be yours in the fullest measure.

Amen but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ So now what does it mean grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? • The focus here in on our intimacy with Christ Philippians 3:10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death;

Amen To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity What is “the day of eternity”? The day of eternity is the time when we will be living on the new earth (ref: 2 Peter 3:13).
