11. School Names Generally, old names were Vo-Tech New names vary: Career and Technology Center (CTC), Technology Centers, Technical Schools, Institutes, Area Vocational Technical School (AVTS), etc.

Types of CTE Schools Full Time – Students attend CTE school all day Some schools are full time with technical classes only Some schools are full time with technical and academic classes (called comprehensive) Part Time – Students attend home district part of day, CTE school part of day – Typically only Technical classes at CTE school

13. All students in PA have a right to attend, unless restricted by school enrollment.

14. Joint Operating Committee (JOC) Equivalent to School Board One representative from each member school district Responsible for day to day operations

15. Monthly Public Board Meetings Hire/Fire Approve Contracts Expulsions, etc. JOC can only recommend budget for approval of member districts. Member districts must approve budget.

16. CTE Authority Boards CTE schools are not legally permitted to be owned by the school itself because it is owned by multiple school districts Buildings are owned by the school’s Authority.

17. Authority is Own Legal Entity Annual Audit, Legal Filings, etc. Authority board can be same or different than JOC Construction bonds are approved by member districts, not Authority

Leadership Superintendent of Record – Superintendent of CTE member district that is ultimately responsible for school CTE Administrative Director – Person at school responsible for day-to-day operations Professional Advisory Committee – Advisory Board comprised of the Superintendent of each member school district. Role is to make recommendations about the schools’ operations.
