  3. Obtaining Power • Livia Drusilla divorced father and married Octavian the later Augustus • Augustus wanted grandsons to be heirs, but they died. • Tiberius reluctantly became successor • Tiberius reigned from 14-37 AD

  4. Social Programs • Tiberius did not start any social programs • Instead he just continued the programs started by Augustus. • This hurt the people • The government was corrupt

  5. Tiberius fought in: Gaul Germany Pannovia Illyricum He had a post as an officer in Cantabria Military Campaigns

  6. Lost Power • Tiberius died on March 16, AD 37 in his home • He did name his successors • Gaius and Gemellus

  7. Titus Flavius Domitianius • Born in 51 AD • Born into a rebel family • Father Vespasian • Mother Flavia Domitilla

  8. Obtaining Power • Domitian’s brother died and he took the throne • His first act was giving his brother a proper funeral • He reigned from 81-96 A.D.

  9. Social Programs • Domitain was a feared leader. • Three Vestal Virgins, convicted of immoral behavior, were put to death • He upheld the law • This hurt the people • Domitain was a corrupt tyrant

  10. He fought in: Agri Decumates Britain Scotland Kingdom of Dacia Wanted to be addressed as 'dominus et deus' ('master and god'). Military Campaigns

  11. Lost Power • Domitan was assassinated by the Senate of Rome On September18, A.D. 96 • He was denied a state funeral • His name was obliterated from ALL public buildings
