  2. The Beginning • Ray Charles was born on September 23,1930.

  3. Birthplace Ray Charles was born in Albany, Georgia. Albany is south of Georgia’s capital Atlanta.

  4. Early life • Ray lived with his mom but they were poor. She sent Ray away to attend the Saint Augustine School for the Deaf and Blind in Florida.

  5. Family life • Ray Charles was not born blind. He started to lose his sight somewhere at the age of five. He was rendered totally blind by the age of seven.[

  6. Important fact • Charles music brought a soulful sound to Country music.

  7. Most well know for • Charles was known as an American pianist and singer who shaped the sound of rhythm and blues.

  8. What I learned • We learned that Ray Charles was a great singer who learned to write and play music as a blind man. He is a great African-American.
