History • Originated in Southeast Asia, but many countries claim to be the originators of the sport. • Believed to have many variations that evolved from a Chinese military exercise where soldiers tried to keep a shuttlecock airborne. • The shuttle cock was eventually replaced by a ball made of woven rattan. • Although it is not yet an Olympic its has grown in popularity through out the world. • Official Sepak Takraw matches are sanctioned by the International Sepak Takraw Federation.

Rules • Each team can have 2 or 3 people on the court at a given time. • The serve must be executed with one player having a pivot foot in the Service circle and using his other foot to kick the ball over the net once it is tossed to him by his teammate standing in the quarter circle. • Each side gets three touches of the ball to try to get it over the net. • The main body parts used are the feet and head. Hands are not permitted. • The scoring is best two out of three sets with a set consisting of 15 points or whatever rules are in place. • Each player is allowed one hit of the ball before sending it over the net, A sepak takraw referee

  5. The court • The court is 13.4 meters long and 6.1 meters wide. Relatively the same size as a badminton court. • The net is 1.52meters high for men and slightly lower for women at 1.42 meters high. • The same size court is used for doubles as it is for when three people play on a team.

  6. Acrobatic kicks • In a Sepak Takraw match one of the most exciting things to watch are the high flying kicks that take place. • Often times the attacking player will perform a flip like maneuver to get the ball over the net in a downward trajectory.

  7. Sepak Takraw • A high flying game with lots of excitement and movement. Sepak takraw is continuing to grow and is on the cusp of becoming an Olympic sport. While be played throughout Asia other countries are beginning to take notice including the United States. Soon we may see this sport sweep the world.
