  1. How Gum Disease Develops and Tips On How You Can Prevent It

  2. How Does Gum Disease Develops? • It starts with Gingivitis. Gingivitis is the early stage of gum disease. This is preventable with proper flossing and brushing. But when gingivitis develops, it leads to periodontitis. The gums also start to detach from the teeth due to bacterial infection. • With mild to moderate periodontitis, chances are you’ll notice bleeding around your tooth. When periodontitis further advances, the bone around the teeth holding them in place gets damaged. This causes the teeth to loosen so much so they would already need extraction.

  3. Indication of Gum Disease • You need not wait for these signs to show up. You can always keep your gums in good condition with good dental hygiene habits. Gum disease is easy to miss because its indications are also barely noticeable. • They don't usually cause pain, so you need to pay close attention to your teeth and gums. One indication of gum disease is persistent bad breath. Everyone experiences bad breath at some point but when it lasts, this may be a sign of a dental problem. Sensitive teeth are also another sign to watch out due to highly acidic foods and beverages.

  4. Here are 5 Important Tips to Prevent Gum Disease

  5. Brush Your Teeth Regularly • Be sure that your toothbrush has soft bristles and learn to brush gently, covering all tooth surfaces. Make sure to brush your teeth in the morning and before going to bed at night. Also, change your toothbrush after 3-4 months. • If you are brushing regularly and still notice your gum bleeding, for instance, then the problem may be with the way you brush. If you are not confident about your brushing, ask your dentist about an electric toothbrush they can recommend.

  6. Use Dental Floss • Flossing helps remove food debris in areas your brush might not be able to reach. • As with brushing, use gentle motion when you’re flossing. Clean the side of your tooth along with the rest, including the back area and the gum line.

  7. Quit Smoking • Smoking can also lead to gum disease. People who smoke are more likely to produce bacterial plaque, which can cause gum disease. • The gums are affected because smoking causes a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream, so the infected gums don't heal.

  8. Eat Fresh Fruits and Vegetables • Fruits and vegetable contain lots of antioxidants and vitamins, such as vitamin C, that help protect gums and other tissues from cell damage and bacterial infection. • Best foods for healthy teeth are fresh fruits and veggies because of their nutritional and mouth health benefits.

  9. Visit Your Dentist • It is important to visit your dentist every six months but when you are in a high risk you need to visit more often. You need to see your dentist if you have any dental problems so that you can keep your teeth healthy. • Leaving tooth and gum problems untreated could make them more difficult to treat in the future, so it's best to deal with problems early, or, if possible, prevent them altogether.

  10. Check These Out! • It is important to exercise good dental habits so that you can keep your teeth and gums healthy.
