  3. Changes for this Year • 6th Grade  7th Grade = BIG Difference • Read, Read, Read!! • 7th Grade Reading Initiative: 40 Book Challenge • STAAR Reading and Writing Test • The more you read…. The better you write!

  4. 40 Book Challenge Students are expected to read 40 books this year. (Yes, 40.)  Why? • Your child will become a reader. He/she will have to figure out what types of books interest them. • Students will be exposed to all the different genres that we encounter in real life … …(and on tests).

  5. 40 Book Challenge Students may choose their own books, as long as they meet the following genre requirements are of the appropriate reading level. Fiction- choose 6 of the 10 Realistic Sports Horror/Suspense Fantasy Mystery Supernatural Historical Science Fiction Adventure/Action Chick Lit.

  6. 40 Book Challenge Students are expected to read 40 books this year. Students may choose their own books, as long as they meet the genre requirement: Book Notes – a note to the teacher about books finished and in progress (2 required)

  8. Tutorial Schedule AM—8:00-8:30 PM—3:55-4:30

  9. “What can I do at home?” Reading • Read a book with your child. • Ask them about what they’re reading now. • Make sure they’re keeping up with their reading requirements.
