  2. Our focus… • Positive/Negative Space • Line & Shape • Mood • Message

  3. C215

  4. Banksy

  5. Video of influential stencil graffiti artist Blek Le Rat. • Pay close attention to his process. • What do the stencils look like? • What is the positive space on the stencil? Does that become the positive or negative space on the wall? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2hk7BUOhzvo

  6. Group Initial Reflection. Discuss these questions with your table group. EVERYONE needs to write their answers in their sketchbook! (15 minutes) • Do you consider stencil/stamp graffiti to be art? Why/why not? • Does the location they choose to stencil effect the message they are trying to spread? • Do you think it is ok for graffiti artists to paint their artwork on places such as buildings that do not belong to them? Why/why not?

  7. Your Task • Using your theme as inspiration, develop a message that you would like to spread through the use of stencil or stamp art. • Since color is limited in this kind of artwork be sure to carefully consider the colors you will use. • Although we will NOT be stenciling or stamping our artwork on public or private property you should still think of locations that would best suit your message and locations that would not.

  8. Laptops- ONE DAY ONLY! Be prepared with a plan for online research. • Example: • Theme: Animals • Message: Adopt pets instead of buying from the pet store • Is there a slogan or motto you want to use? • Images that work well with the message: • the faces of a ca and dog • an older looking dog • SPCA and a no pet store sign

  9. In your sketchbooks prepare your own online research plan. Due tomorrow at the start of class! Theme: Message: (must tie to your theme!) Motto: (do any mottos come to mind) Images for your message: (this is list-give yourself lots of options) Possible websites other than Google:
