  3. --Next to each number, write down what you think the underlined word means. You should write the following: “I think that ______ means ______.” 1.) Everyone loves working in a group with Marcus because he is such an amiable person.

  4. 2.) Emily knew she would have to prevaricate about who ran over the pet cat because she was the guilty one.

  5. 3.) Not only was Marcus an amiable person, but also he was someone who usually had a very sanguine outlook in any situation.

  6. 4.) Oftentimes, poems are more challenging to analyze because of the brevity with which they are written: I almost prefer long novels to poems because at least novels contain more evidence I can analyze.

  7. 5.) The Newtown community and world were shocked by the profane events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary.

  8. 6.) The Pope’s ethereal presence makes one believe that he truly has healing powers.

  15. profane(adj) • treating someone or something with abuse, irreverence, or contempt • Synonyms: ungodly, not sacred, heretical, unholy

  16. ethereal (adj) • Of or relating to the regions beyond the earth • Synonyms: heavenly, divine, supernatural, angelic

  17. proclivity(n) • A habitual attraction to some activity or thing • Synonyms: affinity, inclination, predisposition

  18. Homework- Due, Tomorrow! Write an original sentence using each vocabulary word. -Make sure each sentence contains context clues that hint at the word’s meaning. -Please circle the vocabulary word and underline the context clue(s) in each sentence.
