  2. 一、What’s the Object Clause? Look at the two sentences. 1. I know who she is. _________ 2. Can you explain why you are late again? _________________ Definition :The Object Clause refers to the clause serving as the object of a complex sentence.

  4. 二、The guiding words of the Object Clause 1.that e.g. I believe ( that ) we’ll become good friends. 2.what,who, whom, whose, where,when, how, why e.g. He didn’t say what he bought yesterday. Do you know why she treats you like that? Can you tell me where he is? I can’t remember when I first met him.

  7. 三、The order of the Object Clause Notice: All of the guiding words should be put at the beginning of Object Clause and the clause should be affirmative. Excuse me, can you tell me when the plane leaves? Do you know who will teach us English this term? ____ _______ _____ ___ ________

  8. 四、The tense of the Object Clause 1.If the main sentence is the simple present tense, the Object Clause can adopt any proper tense. He says he will go back tomorrow. We don’t know who took away the book. 2.If the main sentence is the simple past tense, the Object Clause can only use proper past tenses. He told me that he was born in Beijing in 1992.He said that he would go back to the U.S. soon.

  9. 3. If what the Object Clause states is anobjective fact or truth, even if the main sentence uses the past tense, the clause should still use the simple present tense. The teacher said that the earth moves around the sun.
