  4. What is DeviceNet?

  5. What is DeviceNet ? DeviceNet is a network system used in the automation industry to interconnect control devices for data exchange. It uses Controller Area Network as the backbone technology and defines an application layer to cover a range of device profiles. Typical applications include information exchange, safety devices, and large I/O control networks.

  6. What is DeviceNet? • Primarily targeted at Motor Control Centers providing centralized control of these device profiles: • Variable frequency drives • Overload relays and contactors • Motor starters • Network - Linear Bus Topology • Power and Signal on the same network cable • Up to 64 Devices • Network - Speed and Length • 125Kbps @ 500 Meters • 250Kbps @ 250 Meters • 500Kbps @ 100 Meters

  7. Why use DeviceNet? • Use a DeviceNet network to: • Reduce wiring and installation cost • Reduce start-up time • Support standard and safety applications on the same wire • Benefit from an open network • Control, configure, and collect data on a single network

  10. DeviceNet Solution • Integrated into FCS (Foxboro Control Software) • Lower delivery costs - compared to Gateway approach • Delivers FBM229 object and DeviceNet Slave object • Associate the EDS file with the DeviceNet Template • Support for System Management • Support for InFusion View & FoxView faceplates/detailed displays • Utilization of 3rd Party DeviceNet Device Configurators – i.e. RSNetWorx • Delivers the non-redundant single port FBM229 • Certify the FBM229 with the ODVA certification

  14. DeviceNet • Application – motor control, variable speed drivesand remote discrete I/O • Features • FBM229 – native DeviceNet communications • RSNetworx – configuration & adv diagnostics • Benefits • Proven fieldbus technology – power on the same wire • Proven environment for operations and configuration • Integration to a breadth of devices from multiple vendors • Reduce equipment cost – no gateways and protocol converters • 1/3rdless configuration work

  15. Flexibility in FBM counts. (2, 4 or 8 positions) Redundant bus in each baseplate (A & B Bus) Horizontal and Vertical orientations Supports Time Sync connections Compatible with existing Baseplates, FCMs, FBMs. All connections out the front. More space conserved. Redundant Power (24VDC) connections Baseplates IPS Confidential

  25. RSNetWorx • Use RSNetWorx to set the slave devices address, baudrate, and perform any required device configuration that the application of the slave device requires. Determine from RSNetWorx the mode that the device is to work in and the number and format of the input and output telegrams (read/write bytes)
