  1. Topic Organization MOTIVATORS

  2. 21st century human evolution: The 2-dimentional split-life, multi-tasking, holisitcProPerson

  3. More & more 21st century employees rely on their career & professional fulfillment for self-identity & self-fulfillment in life. Thus, they must find ways to fully integrate/combine their pro & personal lives. The main strategy is virtual living via digital technology.

  4. THE HAWTHORNE EFFECT Industry stopped managing employees like horses or machines when companies found that just paying attention to employees can motivate them, stimulating their output.

  5. Is the only purpose of corp. motivation to squeeze more productivity ($$$) out of workers? YES!

  6. Orgs don’t hire you/pay you because they care about you personally. They hire you to help them make money & succeed in the competitive market place. Org-”fulfillment” > employee-fulfillment

  7. Orgs expect you to give higher priority to your professional life than to your personal life. Orgs don’t want/try to motivate you. They expect you to MOTIVATE YOURSELF.

  8. YOUare supposed to deliver the needs of your org, not vice versa.

  9. If you want to use the workplace (your professional life) to satisfy unfulfilled personal needs, you have to create your own strategy (possibly virtual teams). The org won’t do this for you.

  10. LIVING TWO LIVES IN THE WORKPLACE

  11. GRASSROOTS MOTIVATION & NEED FULFILLMENT

  12. The 21st century lifestyle: Leading 2 lives at the same time: personal + professional

  13. TWO-DIMENSIONAL MULTI-TASKING

  14. Pros seeking personal fulfillment must learn to BALANCE/INTEGRATE their competing pro & personal lives. Continuous trade-offs must be made between personal & pro needs& working for the org vs. working for self-fulfillment= the new 21st century work style

  15. Working conditions in most 21st century orgs are continuously unstable due to pro-personal multitasking (split identity integration) →(CIMFP) Continuously Interrupted Multitasking Filtered Productivity

  16. Juggling multiple pro + personal projects • Frequent pro + personal digital interruptions of the work flow: emails, texts, surfing, IPODing, snacking • Frequent physical + virtual social interactions • Time constraints of integrating personal & professional life

  17. Work in the 21st century is socially holistic, not process holistic (efficiency). Orgs are forced to accommodate multi-tasking 21st century dual lifestyles.

  18. THE BIG SQUEEZE

  19. Integration of professional & personal time on the job • Maintaining simultaneous physical/virtual & professional/personal communication & relationships (NET-WORK) • Dual-career marriages & family

  20. Intermingling work vs. leisure lifestyles • Nervous system exhaustion due to continuous multi-tasking • Interfacing with institutions for personal responsibilities, especially child & parental care
