  2. The 2022 Winter Olympics, formally known as the XXIV Olympic Winter Games and dubbed Beijing 2022, is an anticipated global winter multi-sport event set to take place in Beijing and cities in the People's Republic of China from February 4 to February 20, 2022. After the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, and the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, the 2022 Winter Olympics will be the first to be held in China, being the third consecutive Olympics to be held in East Asia.  The Winter Olympics will be held for the first time in a city that has already hosted the Summer Olympics.

  3. China will host the 2022 Winter Olympics in three zones: Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou. The ice sports, as well as four snow events (men's and women's snowboard big air and freestyle skiing big air), will be contested in downtown Beijing, China's capital. Beijing will also host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Yanqing, a hilly suburb of China's capital located 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) northwest of the city center, will feature Alpine skiing and sliding sports (bobsleigh, skeleton, and luge), as well as the Olympic Athletes' village. The majority of the ski and snowboarding sports, including freestyle, cross-country, ski jumping, Nordic combined, and biathlon, will be held at Zhangjiakou, which is around 180 kilometers northwest of Beijing.

  4. Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsled, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combined, Short Track, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, Snowboarding, and Speed Skating are among the 15 that will be featured in the Winter Olympics sports with 109 medal events. Men's and Women's Big Air (Freestyle Skiing), Mixed Team Snowboard Cross, Mixed Team Aerials, Mixed Team Short Track Relay, and Mixed Team Ski Jumping will all debut at the 2022 Winter Olympics.

  5. The mascot for the 2022 Winter Olympics games is Bing DwenDwen. Bing DwenDwen was picked from tens of thousands of Chinese designs submitted from 35 nations across the world. In Chinese, the word "bing" means "ice," and it's supposed to connote purity and power. The name "DwenDwen" is supposed to connote strength, vitality, and offspring. The Winter Olympics welcomes new technology and creates possibilities, as Bing DwenDwen's astronaut-like attire suggests. The games are expected to cost US$3.9 billion, which is less than a tenth of the $43 billion spent on the 2008 Summer Olympics. The opening ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics will be held in the Beijing National Stadium on the night of February 4, 2022, much as it was for the 2008 Summer Olympics. On February 20, 2022, the 2022 Winter Olympics' Closing Ceremony will also take place in Beijing National Stadium. The transfer will take place during a ceremony in which Beijing Mayor Chen Jining will present IOC President Thomas Bach with the Olympic flag. Bach will then wave the flag eight times before presenting it to the mayors of Milan, Giuseppe Sala, and Cortina-D'Ampezzo, GianpietroGhedina, the 2026 Olympic Winter Games hosts.

  6. Critics have questioned Beijing's candidacy, claiming that the suggested outdoor venue sites do not receive consistent snowfall in the winter, making snow sports impossible. Snow may need to be delivered to the venues at a high expense and with unknown environmental repercussions, according to some.  The environmental impact of the games being held so close to Beijing has been questioned.  Some of the proposed venues will be adjacent to the Beijing Songshan National Nature Reserve and part of the same mountain system and the ecological cost of construction, as well as artificially covering parts of the mountain with snow, is unclear.

  7. In response to these worries, China's government has expanded the nature reserve by 31% of its original area. The worldwide energy crisis of 2021 has increased China's pressures ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
