  2. Before we begin, what is an adjective? • An adjective describes or modifies a noun. • The blue notebook • The smart boy • The cute dog

  3. What is different about French adjectives? French adjectives must agree with the noun they are modifying. This means that if the noun is masculine, the adjective has to be masculine. If the noun is feminine, the adjective has to be feminine.

  4. Making an adjective feminine is easy! Most of the time, you just add an “e” to the masculine form of the adjective. Masculine Feminine blond blonde intelligent intelligente petit petite Pronounce the consonant sound Do not pronounce final consonant

  5. QUESTION!What happens if the adjective already ends in an “e?” Nothing changes! Don’t add an “e”… Feminine Masculine jeune timide sympathique riche jeune timide sympathique riche

  6. There are exceptions to the “just add e” rule: Masculine Feminine beau gentil mignon canadien sportif belle gentille mignonne canadienne sportive There are many more than this. These are examples from this lesson.
