  1. Gaelic atheletic Association (GAA) This year (2009) the GAA celebrates its 125th birthday. GAA was founded on November 1st 1884 by 7 men who believed in the continuation of gaelic games. They met in a hotel in Tipperary. The first all Ireland final was between Dublin and Kerry and was played in 1884.

  2. Kerry Jersey 1859 • Since that first final Kerry has won the Sam McGuire 37 times! The Sam McGuire is the name of the trophy that is awarded to the winning team each September.

  3. Kilkenny 15 times Hurling Champions • GAA is not just about football. Hurling is a very important GAA sport. Kilkenny has a big culture for hurling.

  4. Croke Park • Croke Park is the home of gaelic games in Ireland. Situated in the heart of Dublin Croke Park was built over one hundred years ago. It has since been renovated. It is our biggest stadium and is one of the biggest stadiums in Europe.

  5. Hurling • Hurling dates back to 600BC when the Celts arrived in Ireland in 600BC.Celtic myths told tales about Cuchullain and Setanta. • Many of the moden day clubs promoting the game, regarded as the fastest field game in the WORLD!!!!!!!

  6. Handball • Handball is another GAA sport and involves two or four players (singles or doubles). You hit the ball of the wall with your hand. The walls can be 60, 30, 40 or 20 feet high.

  7. Armagh Armagh beat Kerry in 2002 for the Sam McGuire to be Champions! It was the first time Armagh had won the championship. GOAL from Paddy McKeever. Armagh 1-12 Kerry 0 – 14. Armagh are 9 times Ulster Champions!

  8. Armagh Minor Champions 2009 • James Donnelly, Conor King and Kelan Downing are Killean and Killeavy Armagh minors team players and 2009 Winners of the All Ireland Minor Championship! The first time the Armagh minors have won the championship since 1963!

  9. Killean Gaelic Football Club (GFC) • Killean is our local club. They won their first league match in 54 years against Philm Bradys – they have just reformed after a long break – their old team played in 1955.
