  1. Technical Design Engineer - POP / POS / Retail Salary - £35,000- £40,000 Technical Design Engineer - POP / POS / Retail Austin Fraser is currently recruiting experienced Design Engineers to develop retail fixturing concepts into working solutions; from briefing, through prototyping, testing, final design detailing and production setup. The company is going through a very exciting time of growth and development and all designs are not restricted to one manufacturing site as they make their products bespoke with whichever manufacturing facility can do exactly what is needed to produce the best final product. This allows the companies designers to fully flourish and show their creativity, vision and technical knowledge, guiding the product all the way from concept through DFM and into production. Summary of essential job functions 1. Competent use of Solidworks for 3D modelling, assemblies and drawings, adhering to design code of practice. 2. Follow department processes and procedures. 3. Carryout review, verification and validation of design throughout process, using FEA software, weight testing, completing risk assessments, fit/function reports. 4. Ensure designs are fit for purpose, within budget and acceptable to the client 5. Manage several projects simultaneously, using project management skills to carryout tasks in an organised and timely manner, escalating to the team leader or design manager if agreed timescales cannot be met. 6. Communicate clearly with colleagues, in particular with account handlers and project managers of timescales agreed. 7. Ensure project documentation completed is accurate and suitable for manufacture (drawings, appropriate tolerances, materials, processes, finishes, packaging, installation instructions, risk assessments, customer sign off etc). 8. Reduce costs and standardise where possible. 9. Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, both internally within design and externally with other departments and suppliers 10. Travel to suppliers domestically, in Europe and in the far East as necessary 11. Innovate, apply new technologies, investigate new materials & processes as and when required 12. Awareness of competitor products on market Minimum requirements Engineering / product design degree or equivalent. Abilities required - Strong technical problem solving ability. - Organised, process driven individual who understands project management, critical paths, approval processes, ISO procedures. - Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, including and not limited to: sheet metal, joinery, plastic fabrication, injection moulding, plastic & aluminium extrusions, vacuum forming.
