What will I need? • Folder • Your folder is to remain in the school at ALL TIMES • If you plan to attend ELP, your folder should contain all of the work you need for this class • Do not get rid of anything from your folder until you check first • Pencils/Pens (sharpened BEFORE class begins) • What is NOT on this list? • Headphones

How will I be graded? • Attendance/Participation • Bell-Ringers and Merit Card Points • Projects • Research Papers, PowerPoint • Friday Writing Activity • Tests/Quizzes (30% of Overall Grade) • Weekly Vocab Quiz • Daily Classroom Assignments • Bell-Ringers, Reading Guides, Study Guides, Vocabulary, Note Packets • Final Exam (ALL CLASSES) • 10% of Overall Grade • End-of-Course Exam (Biology B) • 10% of Overall Grade • Our Grading Scale • 90-100% = A • 80-89% = B • 70-79% = C • 60-69% = D • Below 60% = F • Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.

Student Behaviors • Be prompt • Be ready to learn when class begins. • Be prepared • Have materials with you and know due dates. • Be a polite and positive participant • Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. • Be productive • Turn in work on time, and always do your best. • Be a problem solver • Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

  10. Showing Respect • Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. • Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. • Use your best MANNERS • Honor the ideas and opinions of others. • Offer to help. • Be responsible with property and belongings.

Merit Cards • How do you earn points? • Behavior – 2 points • Participation – 2 points • Arriving on time (ready to work) – 1 point • What does a “Good Day” look like? • Points are awarded when class time is used wisely, when work is being completed, and when you are not being a distraction to others. • Your cell phone does not make any appearances. • Bell-Ringer is completed during the first 5 minutes of class. • What do you do if you get points deducted? • Learn from experience and have a better day tomorrow

Passes • If you need to leave the classroom for any reason, please consider the following: • Passes will not be given until your bell-ringer is complete • Do not interrupt a class discussion or lecture to ask for a pass. • All passes must be returned when you come back to class. • You may not go to any other location other than what is noted on your pass.

Responsibility for Coursework • Bring folder and appropriate writing tools to class. • Books are to remain in the classroom (copies of chapters may be printed for you.) • Know due dates, and submit all coursework on time. • All assignments are posted on the SmartBoard. • If you need a copy of something, check the binder

Copying/Plagiarism • Copying the work of others is NOTtolerated • Copying another students will result in the following: • A “0” for the assignment in the grade book • An alternate assignment option (Mrs. Flieg’s discretion) • Examples: • Textbook outline • Essay • Research Paper • Research Projects • You are not allowed to copy and paste of someone else’s work and claim it as your own • Summarize, reword, and paraphrase • Use Proper Citations

Entering the classroom • Merit Cards in BASKET • Note: This does NOT say Mrs. Flieg’s desk • Collect Folder and get materials ready • Sharpen Pencil (if needed), collect missing assignments • Sit in Assigned Seat and Complete Bell-Ringer Assignment • 5 Minute Limit • Complete Sentences (discussion to follow) • Begin working on Reading Guide until additional instructions are given. • If you are using a netbook, remember to sign it out • Tardies (discussion prompt)

What do I do while I’m in class? • Assignments (Learning Tasks) are posted on SmartBoard • “Group Work” (discussion prompt) • Turn in completed assignments in appropriate basket • Please do not put your work on my desk • Please do not hand your papers to me (put them into the basket). • Be attentive and participate in class discussions • Focus and work diligently during independent work time. • I should NEVER hear: • I don’t have anything to work on • You didn’t give me anything to do

Dismissal Procedures • Please do not pack up materials until you are given permission • Bell-to-bell learning • Return borrowed materials and put folder into appropriate location • Books NEVER leave the classroom • Log off and power down your netbook • Clean up your mess • Push in your chair • Merit cards will be returned to you at the door • 4th Period: Commons/Bus Duty

What if I was absent? • Check Binder for Missing Assignments • Tests/Quizzes • If you are absent on the day a test or quiz was given, you will complete it on the day you return to class • Missing the review is not a reason to postpone test • Are there exceptions? • Regularly check SISK12 Portal for Grades and Missing Assignments

  20. ELP • ELP is offered to make-up minutes and to provide time for you to complete work that was not finished in class • If you plan to attend ELP, it is your responsibility to collect materials you need to complete work and place them in the ELP classroom. • Classrooms will NOT be unlocked • Books do NOT leave the classroom or go home with you.
