The Institute for Defense and Business (IDB) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit research and education institute located in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The Internally Transportable Vehicle program has been developed to field a family of light attack vehicles in support of expeditionary forces. The ITV is designed to be internally transportable within both the MV-22 tilt-rotor aircraft and CH53D/E rotary wing aircraft.

LVSR variants incorporates a 600-horsepower diesel engine, a seven speed automatic transmission, single-speed transfer case, front tandem steering and driving axles, and rear tridem driving axles of which the two rear most axles steer, 16R20 single radial tires on all axles, and a Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS). All vehicles are equipped with tie down and lifting provisions, and a pintle hook used for towing trailers up to 53,000 pounds of gross trailer weight.
