  1. Welcome To Pastor Garry Clark’s PowerPoint presentation fromthe April 16th sermon: What Drove Jesus’ Enemies Information on ordering a DVD copy of this sermonwill be available at the end of this presentation

  2. We saw what drove Jesus to do what He did for us

  3. Romans 5:6-86 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

  4. Hebrews 12:2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

  5. Well, We Know What Drove Jesus, But What Drove His Enemies?

  6. Exactly the opposite things drove His enemies!

  7. Isaiah 53:1-51 Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed? 2 For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.

  8. Isaiah 53:1-53 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

  9. Isaiah 53:1-54 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

  10. He didn’t look the part • He didn’t fit the part • He didn’t act the part • He didn’t play the game

  11. Matthew 26:3-53 Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

  12. Matthew 26:3-54 And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. 5 But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

  13. Matthew 26:46-5046 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me. 47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

  14. Matthew 26:46-5048 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. 49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

  15. Matthew 26:46-5050 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.

  16. Matthew 26:67Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,

  17. Matthew 27:1-21 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: 2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

  18. They Bound Jesus

  19. They Led Jesus Away

  20. They Delivered Jesus To Pilate

  21. Remember… These were the “religious” leaders!

  22. It was all about them and not about Him!

  23. James 4:10Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

  24. Proverbs 6:16These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

  25. Listen to what Jesus said about them in Matthew 23

  26. Matthew 23:3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. “They say anddo not”

  27. Matthew 23:4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. “They like others to work hard and they do as little as possible”

  28. Matthew 23:5But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, “They want to beseen of men”

  29. Matthew 23:6And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, “They want thebest seats”

  30. Matthew 23:7And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. “They love to hear their titles”

  31. Matthew 23:13But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. “They turn people off and away”

  32. Matthew 23:14Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. “They take advantageof the needy”

  33. Matthew 23:16Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor! “Their word isno good”

  34. Matthew 23:23Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone. “They major on the minors”

  35. Matthew 23:27-2827 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

  36. Matthew 23:27-2828 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity. “They are dirty on the inside!”

  37. PRIDEWILL MESS YOU UP!

  38. Proverbs 3:7Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.

  39. Proverbs 16:18Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.
