  2. NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse • We Help People to Find & Form Any Type of Support Group - over 4,500 local NJ groups, - over 1,100 national, model, and online groups, and - an average 100 individuals wanting to start new groups at any one time.

  3. What We Do • Help 10,000 callers a year find groups. • Help thousands of more people by: - annually publishing hard-copy Directory - providing partial online databases. • Helped over a thousand individuals to start new support groups in NJ in last 24 years.

  4. How We Do It • Toll-free Helpline1-800-FOR-M.A.S.H. (Mutual Aid Self-Help) • 5 full-time Staff & 18 part-time Volunteers. • printed Directories. • Database runs on DOS, written in dBase. • Partial OnlineDatabases– N.J & national - each separately maintained.

  5. Our Current Online Databases • N.J. Self-Help Group Clearinghouse (only 170 NJ groups, of 4,500 available) • American Self-Help Group Clearinghouse (1,100 nat’l & online groups) www.selfhelpgroups.org

  6. Our Vision • Development of One Streamlined Internet-compatible Database to more efficiently help helpers & those in need. • Ultimately, an Improved and More Comprehensive Online Database, available to provide help to thousands of additional people on a 24/7 basis.

Our Needs • Development of a Comprehensive Access Software Database System with: • Database Search/Retrieval Screens • Call/Inquiry Documentation • File Maintenance • Reports & Mailing Labels Generator • Utilities: Re-index, Extracts, & Purge Capability • Group Data conversion from DOS to Access • Beta Testing of Components & Full System.
