**Supplementary Figure 2:**Enrichment of CNVs identified in this study in pericentromeric regions. The fusion that gave rise to human chromosome 2 occurred at 2q13 and was followed by the inactivation of the ancestral centromere at 2q21, where centromeric repeats are located that may represent remnants of the ancestral centromere (Baldini et al. 1993).
