  7. Your PC and Settings • PC Settings should be set to 1024 X 768 for best results with forms. • Minimum 19” Monitor is recommended. • Robust PC’s execute forms much better than lower end PC’s. Therefore, Pentium II or higher and 256 Mg of RAM is recommended. Right-click on your desktop to display the menu and select Properties and then select the Settings tab WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Windows Security Settings • Windows 2000; Windows 98; Windows ME; Windows NT • Open Internet Explorer • Under Tools, select Internet Options, then go to Security tab • If it is not already setup, select Default Level (to be Medium). • To finish, click on OK. • Windows XP • Open Internet Explorer • Under Tools, select Pop-up Blocker, then Pop-up Blocker Settings… • In the text box under Address of Web Site to allow: type isis.wlu.ca, and then click on Add. The web site will show up in the bottom window (Allowed sites). • Do the same for telaris.wlu.ca • To finish, click on Close. • Under Tools, select Internet options, then Security Tab, Custom Level. • Scroll down to Downloads, and then Automatic prompting for file downloads • Select Enable, and click OK, twice. • For other operating systems please check the documentation available on the Information Systems web site WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  9. Yahoo! Toolbar • If you have the Yahoo Toolbar set up in Internet Explorer, you must disable the pop-up blocker there as well. WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Browser – Internet Explorer • The recommended browser is ‘Microsoft Internet Explorer’ version 6.0 or above. • To determine your workstation’s version of Internet Explorer, start your browser, select the ‘Help’ drop down menu from the menu bar, and click on ‘About Internet Explorer’ WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Connecting to Banner from Internet Explorer • Use Microsoft Internet Explorer to access Banner. • Enter https://isis.wlu.cain the address field on your browser • Select Internet Native Banner from the options listed • NOTE: The first time you log in you will be required to load the Oracle JInitiator software onto your individual workstation. • Follow the download instructions as they appear on your screen. • Log into Banner as you normally would using your Banner UserID and Password Don’t forget to bookmark the page or save as a favorite for future use WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  12. Installing Oracle JInitiator Software on first Login • The first time that you access Banner on your computer, you will be prompted to download the Oracle JInitiator software. This software is required for the Banner web forms to run on your computer. • When the security warning box appears, click ‘Yes’ • Windows will automatically select the destination folder for the download. • To complete the process, follow the download instructions and select the defaults until the process is finished.   14. Product Menus • If your login is successful the Banner Product Menu appears. This is the starting point for navigating through Banner • Select a Product or your My Banner Menu • Select the product or menu of your choice in the left pane • Select the form • or - Use ‘Direct Access’ (or ‘Go To’) to go to a specific form or job if you know the seven character name.   15. Log Out • To Log Out from Banner click on the ‘X’ on the right hand side of the Tool Bar until you have exited the system. • A message should appear confirming that you wish to log out. • Click on ‘OK’ if you wish to exit the system WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Form Display Options • Use the form GUAUPRF to maintain your preferences • Select the Display Options of your choice. • To view the form names on Menus be sure to select ‘Display Form Name on Menu’. • To change your colour settings • Select a colour from the colour pallet for the setting you wish to change and click on ‘Save’ (F10) to save your changes WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

My Links • Use the form GUAUPRF to maintain your preferences • Select the My Links Option to set up links to other URL addresses or your choice for quick access. • Enter a User value for the link description • Enter the link address. • Click on ‘Save’ (F10) to save your changes WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Menu Settings • Use the form GUAUPRF to maintain your preferences • Select the Menu Settings to chane the menu which appears open when you log in. • Enter ‘*PERSONAL’ if you want you’re My Banner Menu to appear open rather than the product menu default. • Click on ‘Save’ (F10) to save your changes WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  19. Passwords will expire every 90 days! Change Your Password • Type the form name in the direct access box – GUAPSWD or select ‘Change Banner Password’ from ‘My Links’ • Enter you Oracle Password • Enter the Database (PROD) • Enter Your new Password • Enter New Password to verify change • Apply the Password Change • If your password has expired, you will not be able to access Cognos Click hereto check the IS web site for more information on passwords WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  20. Passwords will expire every 90 days! You have 5 days to change it! • You will receive a warning message each time you log in during a 5 day grace period “ORA-28002: the password will expire within x days” • If a password is not changed within the 5 day grace period, The next time the user attempts to login to Banner, they will receive a message “ORA-28002: the password has expired” . • Click OK and a prompt to change your password will appear. • Users will not be able to get into Banner until they have changed their password. • When password changes are made: • The password must be at least 6 characters long • The password must contain at least one letter and one number • The password cannot contain any of the punctuation marks @$&”(),<>’=# • The password cannot be the same as your Banner user name • Previous passwords cannot be reused for 3 years.   21. My Banner Menu • My Banner Menu includes the forms, jobs, menus and QuickFlows that are most important in your daily work. This menu is tied to your Oracle ID. • Access by selecting ‘My Banner’ from the Main Menu. • If you do not have a personal (My Banner) menu you can create one or one can be copied from another user.   22. Create or Change My Banner Menu • Use the Personal Menu Form GUAPMNU to create or change your menu • Use the pull-down list above the left pane to select the type you want to display. • Form, Job, Menu, QuickFlow WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Add/Remove Objects for your My Banner Menu • To add Objects: • Select each object you want to add in the left frame • You can select multiple objects • Click the ‘insert’ button in the centre of the form • Select Save (F10) to save your changes • To remove objects: • Select the object in the right hand frame • Click the ‘delete’ button • Select Save(F10) to save your changes WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  24. Print to a Network Printer • Enter your 7 character job name in the Direct Access field. • This will automatically take you to the Job Submission form GJAPCTL WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Click in the Printer field and enter your ‘Network’ printer name • Double Click on the Printer field for a list of Network Printers available • Special Print information is specific to the job you are running. • If you want to process the job at a later time enter a time in the submit time field (e.g. 18:30) WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Ctrl Page Down or click in the Parameter Value Field to enter the parameter values. • Ctrl Page down • To save your parameter values click on the Save Parameter field. • Saved parameters are specific to the user and are not seen by other users. You can assign a name to the parameters if you choose but this is not required. • NOTE: Dates will be saved and should be changed each time you run the job WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Click on the Save button in the Toolbar to run the job. • If you have opted to save your parameters, Click on OK when the pop-up window appears • Note the job number in the status bar if this is a process that cannot be reproduced • The output should print on the Network Printer you have chosen. Print to DATABASE • Enter ‘DATABASE’ as your printer name. • Enter your parameter values • Your cursor must be in the submission block to run the report or process • When you ‘Save’, note the process number that will display in the status bar at the bottom of the form. • JOBNAME.123456.lis • Select ‘Review Output’ from the Options menu to view your report or process. • GJIREVO (Saved Output Review Form) can be accessed by entering the form name in the ‘Go’ field on the main Menu screen. • To access output: Enter the job name in the ‘Process’ field and the job number in the ‘Number’ field. When your report/process has completed: • Double Click the ‘File Name’ field to review your output. • Select the .lis file and click the ‘OK’ button. • If the output looks like the information you expected, Select ‘Save and Print’ from the options list. • Click on Yes to view the file in your browser. • NOTE: You can print the file from your browser but page breaks are ignored. • To print the file - Select Save As and save as a .txt file to a directory of your choice • Open the file in Word/WordPerfect to display your report. • Quattro/Excel will work for some reports where the columns are clearly identified such as FWRBDSC • Use Courier Font size 8 and change you page setup to Landscape for best results on most reports • You can then retain the report in a directory of your choice by renaming it and/or print it on your local printer. • Warning: The next time you run the same process or report the last file will be overridden by the new output if you do not rename the files.   30. Please clean up your files regularly • If you use Print to DATABASE you should delete your output from the database when the file is no longer needed • Select the report that you want to delete (including .lis and .log files) • Select ‘Delete Output’ from the Options Menu • Click on ‘OK’ WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  31. Extract Data • You can extract data from a banner form to a .csv file that you can open in Excel or Quattro. • Query the data you need by entering a query on the form. • Once the data appears on the form • Select Help • Select ‘Extract Data with Key’ or ‘Extract Data with no Key’ • NOTE: If the option is not available for the form the option will appear grayed out on the menu • GUAUPRF setting for Data Extract should be ‘FILE’ • A popup will appear for the gotoutp for you to save or view in Excel • If this does not appear, check the information on Windows Security for Pop-ups WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  38. Auto Hint & Status Bar • The Auto Hint at the bottom of the form can contain the following: • Brief Field description • Error or processing message such as job number • Keyboard equivalents • The Status Line directly under the auto hint can contain one or more of the following: • Record n/n - Shows the number of the current record followed by the number of records in the current block. • List of Values - Indicates that the field has a list of values • Enter Query - Indicates that the forms is in Query Mode.   39. Options Menu • Options appear in the Options pull-down menu. The options will vary from form to form. • Some options take you from block to block within the current form. Others take you outside the current form to a related form. • The name of the related form is displayed if you have your personal preferences set to do so. • Some forms will have tabs available. With each release of Banner more forms should be available with tabs. Right Click in the body of a form to get the option menu WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  40. Tabbed Forms • Some forms have tabs as an alternative to the options menu. However, at this time most do not. Future releases of Banner will bring additional tabbed forms. • Click on the tab to move to the alternate form available with the tab. Click on the tab WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

Next Block • The Key Information Block of a form indicates the criteria for your query. • To activate the query enter a Next Block (Ctrl Page Down) or click in the next block with your mouse. • NOTE: A straight line across a form typically indicates that a Next Block is required WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  42. Previous Form • To access a form which you have previously viewed in your current Banner session. • Place your cursor in the ‘Go To’ Field on the Main menu form. • Use the arrow key on your keyboard. • The last 10 forms you have accessed will appear in the order used. Enter, Execute, Cancel Query • Enter Query (F7)-Puts the form into Query mode • Execute Query (F8)-Searches the database and displays the first set of records that match your search criteria • Exit or Cancel Query (Ctrl+q)- Cancels the Query and takes the form out of query mode.   44. Search Wildcards • You can use wildcards % and _ in the search criteria. The % represents any number of unspecified characters. The _ represents one occurrence of an unspecified character. • All entries that contain “ma” enter %ma% • All entries that begin with “ma” enter ma% • All entries that have “ma” as the last two characters enter %ma • All entries that have “m” as the second character enter _m% WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  46. Extended Search by Full or Partial ID • Enter Full ID in the ID field and press enter. If the person/company/vendor exists in the system, the name will appear • Or Enter Partial ID and the % wildcard and press enter. • If one match is found the ID and name are returned to the form.   48. Select an ID From the Matches • Click on arrow next to the Search Results field to view a list of matches • Scroll to the desired name and ID • Click the desired name and ID. The name and ID are returned to the form. • Or reduce your search criteria by entering more data • Select the radio button for Person, Non-person or Both • Enter the criteria in the fields in the Reduce Search By window • one or all fields may be used • Click the Reduce Search Button • Use the Pull Down list to view Search results WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!

  49. Date or Amount Queries • You must specify all four digits for a year when you query a date field. • Banner stores most dates with a time stamp which is not visible on a form. When you include a date in your criteria, use a < or > operator (>25-Jun-2001) or add a % to the end of the date (25-JUN-2001%) if you query on a specific date. • Amounts can be queried using the < or > as well (<50.00) if the exact amount is not known. • Execute the Query (F8) WLU Banner 7.x Training: How To Banner!
