BACKGROUND: OUR REAL ESTATE • A Blessing • Places of Worship/Celebrate/Nurture/Serve/Work • Critical Centers of Ministry • A Challenge • Needs of surrounding community • Facilities not always suited to support forms of new ministry • Underused – empty large % of time • Upkeep Cost – significant % of parish’s budget • Land parcels site idle – unrealized potential for ministry support.

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER • 2010 Bishop John Chapman charge to Diocese • “to work together toward realizing the greatest possible potential from our real estate holdings” • Key - are shared resources, & together we need to use them faithfully in support to ministry. • Realize – especially for major projects like redevelopment, repurposing, & new construction: • Is a task calling for multi-faceted, lengthy process • Drawing on many skill sets, policies, procedures & professional services.

  5. REAL ESTATE ADVISORY PANEL • Provide advice to Bishop on real estate stewardship. • At Bishop’s request provide advice & support to parishes & others on property redevelopment, repurposing, & real estate matters during parish amalgamations. • Members: Bishop John, Ron Brophy, Jim Lynes, Jim Davison, Glenn Bloodworth, Rev. Monique Stone, Ex. Archdeacon David Selzer, & Director of Mission PJ Hobbs. • Broad experience range including theological considerations, community planning & zoning, parish development, redevelopment & sale of surplus federal lands, urban design & sustainable development, and redevelopment & repurposing of federal buildings.

REAL ESTATE ADVISORY PANEL (cont’d) • Build diocesan capacity in addressing real estate issues by: • Inviting theological reflections • Facilitating discussions • Conducting research • Identifying best practices – resource center, expertise • Recommending policies & procedures. • Partner with/Counsel to: • Property & Finance Committee • Parish Growth & Renewal consultants

  7.
