  3. Overview • Historical Per Processor Licensing • Quote/order the number of licenses required for each processor • Taking into account recent multi-core licensing announcements • Processor Value Unit Licensing • Continue to require the number of license entitlements for the processor core on which the middleware is deployed • Processor Value Unit calculation “assistance” is required • Same Quote and Order Process as Today • Distributed Software (DSW) Price Book, BP eOrder, and User developed tools

  4. Processor Value Unit Calculation Assistance Tools • Processor Value Unit Table • Contains each announced processor and its associated Processor Value Units • Downloadable to desk top from Notes DB in spreadsheet or comma separated value (CSV) format • May be used by any “User Developed” tool • Processor Value Unit Calculators • Either calculator assistance tool can be used • Processor “Value Unit Calculator” or • Alternative “Processor Selection” calculator • Both tools are designed to calculate quantity of processor value units required for your unique processor environment(s) selected • Both calculator assistance tools can be accessed from Distributed Software (DSW) Price Book, BP eOrder, and PA online • Only the Proc. “Value Unit Calculator” can be accessed stand alone from PA online

  5. Quote Process Flowchart You need to choose Processor “Value Unit Calculator” Online Quote Tools: DSW Price Book or SQO Online Quote Tools Recommended or Alternative “Processor Selection” calculator Processor “Value Unit Calculator” User Developed quote tools Lotus Notes Price List Data Base Sales Rep

  6. Two Calculator Assistance Tools Recommended Alternative “Processor Selection” calculator Advantage: • Calculated processor value units are returned automatically to DSW Price Book Disadvantage: • Only two levels of drill down available; can be more difficult to identify correct processor • To be replaced in 2007 Processor “Value Unit Calculator” Advantage: • Multiple drill down levels used to identify your unique processor environment • Guided and expert mode available • Web-based tool with links from many sites including the Passport Advantage web site (Xtreme Leverage) Disadvantage: • Calculated processor value units must be returned manually to DSW Price Book for quotes • Processor “Value Unit Calculator” integrated with Quote Tools in 2007 • Calculated processor value units will be returned automatically to DSW Price Book or

  7. The Two Calculator Assistance Tools Use Different Table Structures • Processor “Value Unit Calculator” • More structured • More navigation assistance • Alternative “Processor Selection” Calculator” • Less structured • More data entered in one line

  32. Glossary of Hardware Terms Processor: A functional unit on which software executes. Processors are mounted on chips. With multi-core chips each core is considered a processor. For eg., in a dual-core chip, there are two processors. Multi-core chip: Chips can contain one or more processor cores on a silicon wafer. Chips with more than one core are called multi-core chips. Chips are mounted on sockets on the server’s motherboard. Per Processor Licensing: A common charge metric used by middleware software vendors. Customers purchase licenses based on the number of activated processor cores on the server available to the middleware. Beginning in 2005, middleware vendors began to license for fractions of processors for multi-core chips with relatively lower performance processors. Processor Value Unit Licensing: A new charge metric introduced by IBM designed to designed to eliminate the need for fractional per processor licensing, and provide the necessary flexibility to continue to deliver software price performance improvements on new multi-core technologies. Processor Value Unit Calculator(s): The processor “Value Unit Calculator” and the alternative “Processor Selection” calculator (together “the processor value unit calculators”) were created by IBM to assist sales reps and business partners to identify the quantity of processor Value Units required for their customer’s unique processor hardware environment(s). Processor Value Unit Table: A table which contains each announced processor and its associated processor Value Units has been created. The table is used by the processor value unit calculators, and the is available for download from the Lotus Notes Pricing Data Base for use with user developed quote tools. The table will be updated as processor vendors introduce new processors in the marketplace.

  33. Glossary of Hardware Terms and Related Brands Processor Architecture:The major processor architectures in the distributed middleware server marketplace are x86, RISC, and IA-64 (Itanium). A sample listing of major server vendors and brands by architecture is as follows: Processor Vendors and Brands: Server vendors can manufacture servers using their own processor brands or processor brands from other processor vendors. A sample listing of processor vendors and brands by server follows: Processor Type: A processor type (or chip type) indicates the number of processor cores on a single chip. A sample listing of processor types in use today by processor vendor and brand is as follows:

  36. Lotus Notes Pricing Database - Table Available • Downloadable in spreadsheet or xml formats • Download the processor value Unit table • Users will need to periodically update the downloaded data to stay in synch with table updates Beginning on July 25, 2006, the price list database will now include a Processor Value Unit Table folder in the left hand navigator….. Text bubbles up when it’s longer than the frame width, if the user mouses over the text.
