  4. Yearly Membership is $30 per familyLifetime membership is only $100 per family! $30

Since inception of the Huskie Athletic Booster Club in 2009 (prior to Tuscarora High School opening in 2010) the HABC has able to support THS Athletics and the Athletic Department in the following ways:   • Athletic Equipment- $110,500+  This includes, but not limited to,  helmets for all teams, balls, goalie nets, weight room equipment, track equipment, timing system for swim team, Golf bags,  etc. • Athletic Facility Improvements-$216,500+ This includes all Record Boards, Trophy cases, award signage, wrapping of all doors, press box windows, field improvements, wind screens outside, flags, etc. • Uniforms for Varsity sports-$145,500+ • Coaches Clinics-$9100+ • Team Distributions-$170,725+  This is money directly back to the teams from participating in HABC fundraisers.  Teams can spend this money however they choose • Scholarships to our Senior Athletes-$26,500+ • Special Events-$47,500+  Tailgate, Senior Picnic, Hospitality Rooms  Some of the ways HABC funds these things and ways we bring in revenue: • Sponsorships-$185,500+  from local businesses and family run businesses • Fundraisers-$390,500+ Discount Cards, letter writing campaign and mulch sales (This is where majority of the Team Distribution money is from) • Concession Stand-$199,500+ • Membership/donations-$83,500+

  7. HOW CAN YOU HELP? • Join the HABC • Work in concessions • Volunteer • Come to a meeting • Join a committee • Become a board member • Be involved

  8. FAMILY PASSES: • If you attend all Tuscarora home games this year, you will spend over $400.00per person on admissions! Annual passes can be a tremendous savings. To take advantage of this opportunity, simply fill out the order form below, make a check payable to Tuscarora High School and return to school either by mail or in person to the Athletic Department. For information, please call the Athletic Department at 571-252-1910. • These passes are good for ALL REGULAR SEASON HOME GAMES ONLY (does not include playoff or tournament games) at Tuscarora High School for the School year 2019-2020.

PURPOSE OF MEETING: • Congratulations to all athletes for participating/being selected to be a member of a fall sports team. • Discuss LCPS, and VHSL policies • Sportsmanship • Communication • Give coaches opportunity to meet the parents to talk about a number of things: • The upcoming season • Expectations of the team • Commitment they expect of team members during the season • Talk about rules and regulations • Mandatory Study and Academic Monitoring

  11. Required Forms & Fees to Participate • VHSL Physical – ONLY PAPER COPY!!!! BELOW IS DONE ONLINE EXCLUSIVLEY: • LCPS Training Rules* • Emergency Card Now Can Be 3 Season • Parent Consent/Concussion Information • Insurance Forms/waiver • LCPS does not carry Insurance on student athletes • $150 Activity Fee per Sport. You can either pay by check or use the LCPS Payment Portal Online • Make Checks out to THS

  12. LCPS TRAINING RULESImportant Training rules that always seem to come up: #7, 8, & 9

  13. #7 • In order to participate in an athletic activity or practice on any given day, an athlete or manager must report to school by 9:30am and must remain in school that entire day. Exceptions may be made for Doctor or Dental appointments or reasons excused by the Principal. (A Doctor/Dental note is required for this exception)

  14. #8 • Any athlete or manager serving suspension or in-school restriction for violation of school rules will be ineligible to practice or play in a scheduled event on the day or days he/she is serving the punishment, including Saturdays. • Not eligible to practice or play in a game until the day after the last day of ISR/OSS.

VHSL HANDBOOK RULES • 28-4-1 Scholarship Rule • Student athletes must be currently enrolled in not fewer than 5 subjects and have passed 5 subjects the preceding semester. • A subject for which credit has previously been granted may not, if repeated, be used by any student to satisfy the requirements of this rule. Knowledge of rules/requirements by team • Teams may have individual requirements that will be explained during your breakout sessions • Questions always come up: • Make sure you know how to contact your coach • Make sure your coach knows how to best contact you • Communication is key • Student-Athletes are not always the most stable conduit of information

  18. SPORTSMANSHIP • Sportsmanship is a priority in LCPS • VHSL Sportsmanship Awards: • Claudia Dodson • Stay in the game award • Three invested stakeholders at any game/event: • Parents • Coaches • Officials • SET THE EXAMPLE!

VHSL and School Penalties • Any penalty resulting from an Ejection or filed sportsmanship report from the VHSL is the minimum punishment. • The school can require a player, coach or team to sit out of additional contests if so deemed by the administration. • The standard penalty is one additional segment (i.e. one quarter/one quarter-one game-one game) • Appeals to suspensions start at building level.

  23. RESPONSIBILITIES • Prevention of injuries and re-injury • Immediate care of injuries • Recognition, evaluation and assessment of injuries • Rehabilitation and reconditioning of injuries • Organization and administration • Professional development and responsibility

  24. ASSUMPTION OF RISK • Not all injuries can be prevented • Catastrophic injuries can occur in any sport • Comprehensive care provided by Athletic Training staff has been shown to reduce the initial severity of injury and the incidence of re-injury

INJURIES • All injuries and illnesses must be reported to the Athletic Trainer • All injuries must be reported prior to a return to activity regardless of the severity • The philosophy of Athletic Trainers is to return injured athletes to participation in the quickest and SAFEST manner possible.

RETURNING TO PLAY • A parent, coach, family physician, administrator, ATC, or team physician can exclude an athlete from participation • All of these individuals must agree that the athlete can and should play • The return to play process is progressive in nature and can take time to complete • The ATC role is to ensure your student-athlete is ready to return to play safely

CONCUSSIONS PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR STUDENT ATHLETE REPORTS ANY HEAD INJURIES TO THE CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER IMMEDIATELY! • A Concussion is an injury to the brain • Concussions can alter your ability to learn • Concussions can be life threatening • Signs and Symptoms: • Headache Dizziness • Confusion Change in personality • Difficulty in sleeping Difficulty concentrating • Loss of Appetite Loss of memory • Treatment often includes rest/hydration

  28. WHAT IS MRSA? • MRSA is a “Staph” infection • Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus • MRSA does not respond to some common antibiotics • It is treatable • MRSA, like other infections can become very serious if left untreated • Severe infection can be prevented by practicing proper hygiene/early detection

  29. PREVENTING MRSA • Shower daily after practice and competition using soap • Make sure you are washing your workout clothes daily or keeping them separate from non-workout clothes • Bring clean clothes every day to practice • Report any suspicious lesion to the ATC • Do Not: • Share Clothing • Share towels • Share personal products like soap or deodorant

  30. BREAK OUT SESSION WITH COACHES Break-Out Sessions during the Parent Meeting will take place as follows: • Football – Stay in Auditorium • Cross Country – Main Gym Visitor Side​ • Golf – Career Center​ • Cheerleading – Aux. Gym​ • Volleyball – Main Gym Home Side • Field Hockey - Cafeteria
