  5. Jacob Made Peace Why did Jacob make peace? It was not (all) his fault He really did not do anything evil to his brother Because he KNEW his brother had been offended Because he WANTED to live in peace with his brother

  6. Jacob Made Peace Jacob never directly mentions his past issues (In part) because it was not all his fault He did not apologize for something he didn’t do He did know that he needed to repair this

  7. Jacob Made Peace Jacob’s reconciliation with Esau is an important lesson on peacemaking Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God” Why did Jacob make peace? It was not (all) his fault He really did not do anything evil to his brother Because he KNEW his brother had been offended Matthew 5:23-26 Because he WANTED to live in peace with his brother Romans 12:18

  8. Importance of Peacemaking We need to WANT to live in peace with others Romans 12:18 We need to PURSUE peace with others Hebrews 12:14 How do we make and pursue peace with others?

  9. Importance of Peacemaking 1. By acknowledging when we are wrong We have sinned against another Matthew 18:15-17 We ought to be people who quickly admit wrong 1 John 1:8 Even towards unbelievers

  10. Importance of Peacemaking 1. By acknowledging when we are wrong 2. By acknowledging when we have hurt someone Sometimes we hurt others WITHOUT FAULT We still have a divine obligation Matthew 5:23-26 We CANNOT allow a division to stand

  13. Sometimes Peace Cannot Be We can only go so far to achieve peace “so far as it depends on you” – Romans 12:18 We cannot achieve peace if: We don’t know that we have offended Others are unwilling to reconcile It is a matter of sinful behavior of others

  14. The Most Important Peace Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ…… For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. Romans 5:1,10
