What is AMSA? • The American Medical Student Association is committed to improving health care and healthcare delivery to all people; promoting active improvement in medical education; involving its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine; assisting in the improvement and understanding of world health problems; contributing to the welfare of medical students, premedical students, interns, residents and post-MD/DO trainees; and advancing the profession of medicine • Develop the well-balanced and competitive • Medical school applicant • Student that will grow professionally • and personally through community service, • workshops, health advocacy, and friendships

  7. When/How Often do we meet? • We will be meeting every Wednesday from 5 to 6 pm • MCB 3-120 • Meetings usually last one hour and enter and exit anytime • Food will be provided at every meeting 

Why Pre-Med AMSA? • Pre-Med AMSA is the fastest growing Pre-Med group with over 65,000 members nation wide ranging from pre-med students, medical students and physicians • National Membership is recognized by all medical schools , must be national member to put on AMCAS • Leadership opportunity that is not based on seniority but by dedication • When you join AMSA, you become part of a vital force of future physicians who believe that patients and health professionals are partners in the management of health care and that access to high-quality health care is a right and not a privilege. At AMSA, activism is a way of life. Student idealism is transformed into meaningful public service, innovation and institutional change.

How do I join? • Attend our weekly meetings and get involved • Become part of committees/apply for committee chairs • Local Membership • Sign up with any Pre-Med AMSA board member for $20 a year • National Membership • Sign up 5 years and this allows you to put Pre-Med AMSA on AMCAS Application for $75

  17. Mentorship/Social Networking • UMN Medical AMSA and UMN Pre-Med AMSA Medical Student Mentorship Program • Pre-Med Dinner with U of MN Med School Faculty and Doctors • Study Groups for organic chemistry, physics, etc.

Mentorship Program • 1 on 1-2 meetings over lunch/coffee 1-2 times a month. • Program primarily for freshman and sophomores looking learn more about Med school, and for those who wish to network. • Pairing priority will be given to those with the most AMSA Bucks. • Lunch/dinner at the end of the semester with all the Med students and undergraduates who participated in the program.
