WHAT IS LOVE YOUR HEART? • ♥ An annual event in February • ♥ Free blood pressure screenings to the public • ♥ Goal: “know your numbers” • ♥ County partnership with partners that include: • ♥ Healthcare • ♥ Fire and EMS agencies • ♥ Universities • ♥ City governments • ♥ Non-profits and faith-based partners • ♥ Business community

WHYLOVEYOURHEART? ♥ About75millionAmericanadults havehighbloodpressure—that’s1 in every 3 adults. ♥ About1 in 3American adultshas prehypertension—bloodpressure numbersthatare higherthan normal—butnotyetinthehighblood pressure range. ♥ High bloodpressure is a primary or contributing cause of death formore than 1,100 deathseachday. ♥ Highbloodpressure coststhenation$48.6 billioneach year.   5. LOVEYOUR HEART2019SITES:US ANDMEXICO For the 2019 event, we had 375 Love Your Heart screening sites in collaboration with partners in the US and Mexico

  6. NUMBER OF SCREENINGS THAT IDENTIFIED URGENT OR EMERGENT BP ♥ Each year, around 1 of every 2 participants with a reported level had elevated blood pressure. In 2019, 61% of participants in San Diego County had a high BP level. (2018 was 57%) ♥ There were 5,269 participants with a reported blood pressure level who responded to a question about the use of blood pressure medications. Of these, 21.5% said they were using blood pressure medication. ♥ Of those who stated they used medication, 80.8% had high blood pressure. Of those who said they did not use medication, more than half had high blood pressure.

NUMBER OF SCREENINGS THAT IDENTIFIED URGENT OR EMERGENT BP Urgent BP defined as: Elevated blood pressure with no evidence of end-organ damage ♥ In 2014, 57 out of 17,774 screenings were identified as Urgent or Emergent BP ♥ In 2015, 80 out of 20,494 screenings were identified as Urgent or Emergent BP ♥ In 2016, 101 out of 31,695 screenings were identified as Urgent or Emergent BP ♥ In 2017, 77 out of 53,655 screenings were identified as Urgent or Emergent BP ♥ In 2018, 107 out of 36,669 screenings were identified as Urgent or Emergent BP ♥ In 2019, 101 out of 43,524 screenings were identified as Urgent or Emergent BP Emergent BP defined as: Elevated blood pressure with evidence of end-organ damage 523 TOTAL Urgent or Emergent BP* *Urgent/emergent screenings reported for San Diego County sites only

  9. How can you participate in Love Your Heart 2020? PROMOTESpread the word about the Love Your Heart event at your workplace or among your neighbors and community groups. VOLUNTEERWe need medical workers and general volunteers who can be matched with our screening sites!OFFER SCREENINGSHost a screening site for employees at your worksite, for your congregation at your place of worship, or for the public at offices, health clinics, universities, school districts, fire stations, and more!

  10. Call to action! • ♥ Join forces with local firefighters, nurses, students, businesses, and others to raise awareness about heart disease • ♥ Empower fellow residents to take charge of their own heart health • ♥ Support a culture of wellness and the Live Well San Diego vision!
