  1. GOD’S PLAN FOR REDEEMING MAN God’s Eternal Plan for Us As Revealed in the Word Lesson 7: Fulfilled Prophecies

  2. FULFILLED PROPHECIES • Prophecies about the Great King • Prophecies about the Seed • Prophecies about a King and Priest who would sit on a future throne • Prophecies about God’s House • Prophecies about God’s Kingdom

  3. THE COMING KING • It was prophesied that Israel would have a King. • NUMBERS 24:17-19. • “I see him, but not now; I behold him, but not nigh: a star shall come forth out of Jacob, and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab, and break down all the sons of Sheth. 18 Edom shall be dispossessed, Se'ir also, his enemies, shall be dispossessed, while Israel does valiantly. 19 By Jacob shall dominion be exercised, and the survivors of cities be destroyed!”

  4. It was prophesied that that King would come from the tribe of Judah. • GENESIS 49:10. • “The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.”

  5. 1 CHRONICLES 5:2. • “Though Judah became strong among his brothers and a prince was from him, yet the birthright belonged to Joseph.”

  6. THESE PROPHECIES WERE FULFILLED IN CHRIST • HEBREWS 7:14. • “For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.”

  7. He was the offspring of David, who was of the tribe of Judah. • LUKE 2:4-11. • “And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.

  8. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. 7 And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. 8 And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

  9. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. 10 And the angel said to them, "Be not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; 11 for to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

  10. ACTS 13:22-23. • “Then [Israel] asked for a king; and God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22 And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; of whom he testified and said, 'I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.' 23 Of this man's posterity God has brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, as he promised.”

  11. And He was to rule over His people Israel. • MATTHEW 2:6. • “Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, 2 "Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we have seen his star in the East, and have come to worship him."

  12. 3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; 4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. 5 They told him, "In Bethlehem of Judea; for so it is written by the prophet: 6 'And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will govern my people Israel.”

  13. THE SEED OF DAVID • It was prophesied that David’s seed would build the house for God, and the building of this house was to be after David dies. • 2 SAMUEL 7:12. • “When your days are fulfilled and you lie down with your fathers, I will raise up your offspring after you, who shall come forth from your body, and I will establish his kingdom.”

  14. 2 SAMUEL 7:13. • “He shall build a house for my name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom for ever.” • 2 SAMUEL 7:16. • “And your house and your kingdom shall be made sure for ever before me; your throne shall be established for ever.”

  15. Christ was the offspring of David. • LUKE 1:30-33. • “And the angel said to her, "Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus.

  16. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

  17. He built the church. • MATTHEW 16:18-19. • “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

  18. The church is also known as the house of God. • 1 TIMOTHY 3:15. • “If I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.”

  19. At the time the church-house of God was built, David was already dead. • ACTS 2:29-36. • "Brethren, I may say to you confidently of the patriarch David that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne,

  20. 31 he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. • 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses. 33Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you see and hear.

  21. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens; but he himself says, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35 till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet.' 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified."

  22. THE KING AND PRIEST ON THE THRONE • It was prophesied that “the man whose name is The BRANCH, shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both”(ZECHARIAH 6:12-13).

  23. DETAILS OF THESE PROPHECIES WERE FULFILLED IN JESUS • Jesus resurrected in glory. • LUKE 24:26. • “And he said to them, "O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?" 27 And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.”

  24. 1 TIMOTHY 3:16. • “Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion: He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory.”

  25. He ascended to heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. • MARK 16:19. • “So then the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God.”

  26. ACTS 2:30-34. • “Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne, 31 he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 32 This Jesus God raised up, and of that we all are witnesses.

  27. 33 Being therefore exalted at the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you see and hear. 34 For David did not ascend into the heavens; but he himself says, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35 till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet.”

  28. He sat down atthe right hand of the throne of the Majesty. • HEBREWS 8:1. • “Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven.”

  29. He is now King and Priest on His throne. • HEBREWS 8:1. • “Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens.”

  30. He has a kingdom. • COLOSSIANS 1:13. • “Giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. 13 He has delivered us from the dominion of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”

  31. He will continue to reign in His kingdom till He has conquered all His enemies. • 1 CORINTHIANS 15:24-25. • “Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.”

  32. ACTS 2:34-35. • “For David did not ascend into the heavens; but he himself says, 'The Lord said to my Lord, Sit at my right hand, 35 till I make thy enemies a stool for thy feet.”

  33. The last enemy to be conquered is death. • 1 CORINTHIANS 15:26. • “The last enemy to be destroyed is death.”

  34. Death is to be conquered on resurrection day. • 1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-55. • “Lo! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

  35. 53 For this perishable nature must put on the imperishable, and this mortal nature must put on immortality. 54 When the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written: "Death is swallowed up in victory." 55 "O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting?"

  36. This means that Jesus will continue to reign till resurrection day. At the end, he shall deliver the kingdom to God the Father. • 1 CORINTHIANS 15:24. • “Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.”

  37. THE HOUSE OF GOD • It was prophesied that the house of God would be built on the last days. • ISAIAH 2:2. • “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it” (Cf. Micah 4:1).

  38. It would be exalted above the mountains and the hills. • ISAIAH 2:2a. • “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it.”

  39. All nations would flow to it. • ISAIAH 2:2b. • “It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established as the highest of the mountains, and shall be raised above the hills; and all the nations shall flow to it.”

  40. Many people would come to it to be taught of the ways of the Lord. • ISAIAH 2:3a. • “And many peoples shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths. For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. ”

  41. The place where it would bebuilt, and where the teaching would also begin is mentioned: Zion or Jerusalem. • ISAIAH 2:3b. • “And many peoples shall come, and say: "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us his ways and that we may walk in his paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.”

  42. The details of this prophecy have all been fulfilled in the New Testament. By the preaching of the authority of Jesus on that first Pentecost after His resurrection, the way of God was preached to all nations beginning at Jerusalem. • LUKE 24:46-47. • “And said to them, "Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be preached in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

  43. ACTS 2:5. • “Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language?”

  44. The good news of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection was preached. • ACTS 2:22-24. • “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man attested to you by God with mighty works and wonders and signs which God did through him in your midst, as you yourselves know-- this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men. But God raised him up, having loosed the pangs of death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it.”

  45. Remission of sins was preached in His name. • ACTS 2:36, 38. • “Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified… And Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

  46. The church, or the house of God, was built on that day. • ACTS 2:46-47. • “And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they partook of food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”

  47. ACTS 8:1. • “And Saul was consenting to his death. And on that day a great persecution arose against the church in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered throughout the region of Judea and Sama'ria, except the apostles.”

  48. The church is God’s house. • 1 TIMOTHY 3:15. • “If I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.”

  49. 1 PETER 4:17. • “For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?”

  50. THE KINGDOM OF GOD PROPHESIED • Daniel 2:31-45. • "You saw, O king, and behold, a great image. This image, mighty and of exceeding brightness, stood before you, and its appearance was frightening, 32 The head of this image was of fine gold, its breast and arms of silver, its belly and thighs of bronze, 33 its legs of iron, its feet partly of iron and partly of clay.
