John Paul II, born Karol Wojtyla in Wadowice on May 18, 1920, was a transformative figure in the Catholic Church. After becoming a priest in 1946, he rose to the rank of cardinal in 1967. Elected Pope in 1978, he took the name John Paul II. His papacy is distinguished by his efforts to bridge divides, particularly between Catholics and Jews. Notably, he survived an assassination attempt in 1981. John Paul II passed away on April 2, 2005, leaving a profound impact on the world.

  2. His real name was Karol Wojtylaand he was born in Wadowiceon May 18th, 1920.

  3. His brother • He had a brother called Edmund who was a doctor in Cracow.

  4. He became a priest in Cracow on 1st November 1946 and twenty-one yearslater, in 1967, he became a cardinal.

  5. In 1978, Wojtyla was elected Pope and took the name John Paul II.

  6. On May 13, 1981, in Rome, Turkish terrorist Mehmet Ali Agca tried to kill the Pope, but he failed.

  7. John Paul II died on April 2, 2005in the Vatican City.
