  2. The seven elements of design are line value, texture, shape, form, space, and color. ,

  3. Line • A line is a mark made by a moving point. • It can have psychological impact according to its direction, weight.

  4. Diagonal lines show movement and excitement!

  5. Vertical lines give a lofty or spiritual feeling.

  6. Horizontal lines can suggest that something is stable or restful.

  12. Negative space is the distance between and around the objects.

  16. Form This element refers to three-dimensional shapes that have - length, width and depth. • They take up space. You can hold them, and walk around them.

  25. Value • Refers to the relative darkness or lightness of a color. • Value can give a strong feeling to a design.

  29. Texture • An element of art which refers to the surface quality or "feel" of an object, its smoothness, roughness, softness, etc. Textures may be actual (real) or simulated (made to look real).

  34. Color • Color is one of the most powerful of elements. It has tremendous expressive qualities.

  36. Color has many psychological implications.

  37. For example, in the United States, black is the color of mourning. In many tropical countries and in East Asia white is the color of death. On the other hand, white is the color worn by American brides, while brides in much of Asia wear red.

  41. A Review: • What are the elements of art? The building blocks of art • Lines can suggest an attitude or feeling. Horizontal lines can make a picture feel calm and steady. Diagonal lines show excitement.

  43. Space is divided into two areas of equal importance. • Positive space is the object. • Negative space is the area around the object.

  44. Form refers to a 3 dimensional object. • The object has length, width, and depth.

  46. How something feels is the element of texture. • It can be real (like fur or feathers) • or it can look real (a painting of feathers).
