  2. Content of the presentation • Main types of frequency converters • AC-DC converters • DC-DC converters • DC-AC converters • AC-AC converters • Direct frequency converters • Cycloconverters • Indirect frequency converters • Converters with voltage type of the DC link • Converters with current type of the DC link

  3. Power converters • A power semiconductor converter is an electrical device for converting electrical energy.

  4. Converters with voltage type oftheDC link • General characteristics: • Creation of output AC voltage with utilization of the voltagetype of the DC link • Regulation of output values (voltage, current, frequency) by the output power inverter • Filtration of the voltagein the DC link by the capacitor battery • Relatively easy control algorithms due to small number of switches • High dynamics, possibility of high switching frequencies • MOSFETs for low power, IGBT for medium power and IGCT or GTO for high power applications 3 phase voltage inverter 6-pulse diode rectifieror 4-quadrant pulse voltage rectifier

  5. Converters with voltage type oftheDC link Indirect frequency converter with 6-pulse diode rectifier and voltage inverter Indirect frequency converter with 4-quadrant pulse voltage rectifier and voltage inverter

  6. Converters with voltage type of theDC link Switching frequency 0.5kHz Switching frequency 10kHz

  7. Converters with current type oftheDC link • General characteristics: • Creation of output AC voltage with utilization of the currenttype of the DC link • Regulation of output values (voltage, current, frequency) by the output power inverter • Filtration of the currentin the DC link by the power coil • Relatively easy control algorithms due to small number of switches • High dynamics, possibility of medium and highswitching frequencies • High power applications, utilization of IGBT, GTO and IGCT power parts • The absence of higher harmonics, controlled power factor 3-phasecurrentinverterwithcapacitorbattery 6-pulse thyristor rectifieror 4-quadrant pulse current rectifier
