  1. The finished work of Christ 3-18-12

  2. Let’s catch up here and see where we have been since Jan 1st. Jan 1st Week 1- Talked about the events surrounding the cross, darkness and the meaning of the word “finished”. 2 - We taught, that our shame from the garden is taken away. We have been reconciled to God. 3 – We taught, that Christ was forsaken and the differences between “My God and My Father”.

  3. Loss of fellowship is not the wage of sin, death is. Jesus suffered more than loss of fellowship. What was the price of redemption? 4 – The teaching of the image problem. God’s image and Adam’s image. Christ is the first fruits. He gives us a new image. 5 – Total depravity and lost as a race. The death problem and the life solution.

  4. 6 – The hopelessness of the old man and how trying to improve the old man is fruitless. We need to receive the Spirit through faith in Christ. Then we live according to the new man! 7- Once again the total corruption of the Adamic image in us and the complete change we have, in the new image created in Christ Jesus.

  5. Also, to try to attempt to change is an insult to God because we can’t, only a new nature will do! We were hopeless and dark and needed to be born again, brand new in Christ! We are a new race! 8 – We taught more on the new image, that it is not a feeling but a belief in the facts of the word. The old man grows corrupt. The new man is being renewed day by day!

  6. 9 – We started on the torn curtain and read from Heb 7 about how it signaled a new way. Jesus is from Melchizedek and not Levi. There is now a better hope! 10 – The torn curtain was a physical and spiritual barrier to God. Now everything has been nailed to the cross. Our shame is gone and we can now come boldly to the throne!

  7. 11– Seven things that the torn curtain ended. Temple people were out of a job! Today we will look at Hebrews 7:19-28) and see the great work Christ has done when the curtain tore. 19-22 for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God.

  8. Perfect= complete! When someone is complete, there is nothing else needed. Perfection is the goal! The bringing in of a better hope= This is a “super-introduction of something stronger.” And we are confident in this!!! Draw near means= as close as Jesus

  9. Eph 2:5) even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, Heb 7:20) And inasmuch as He was not made priest without an oath

  10. 21) (for they have become priests without an oath, but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: “The LORD has sworn And will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever According to the order of Melchizedek’ ”), Psalm 110

  11. 22) by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a better covenant. Jesus once again trumps all. The priests became priests by linage, Jesus became a priest by the oath of God. Because He suffered and died and rose again He, by so much more, became the “limb pledge” 23) Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing.

  12. 24) But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25) Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

  13. The reason there was so many priests is because they were flesh and died! Inferior!!!!! Because Jesus doesn’t die again, He has this permanent priesthood! If He doesn’t die, then who can take His place? SUPERIOR!

  14. Because He is sitting at the Father’s right hand on the throne!!!! He constantly has this incredible position. Where even though satan accuses us day and night, Jesus’ intercession is all God is listening to concerning us!!!!!

  15. Saved to the uttermost! His intersession of us is so great. That it saves to the: “παντελής (pan-tel-ace') Πᾶς (pas`) all, any, every, the whole τέλος telos (tel'-os) the point aimed at as a limit, the conclusion of an act or state (a termination) a result,a purpose.

  16. 26) For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27) who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people’s, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28) For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever.
