TORIC simulations of energetic particle modes in C-ModC.K. Phillips, P. T. Bonoli, and J.C. Wright Objective: Study the structure and damping of TAE and other energetic particle modes using the TORIC simulation code and compare to C-Mod experiments Supporting ideas: TORIC provides a fully kinetic but linear analysis of wave-like modes in the lower frequency ranges (Alfven, ICRF, LHCD) in actual 2D equilibrium geometry Should be possible to simulate TAE and related modes driven by external launchers (similar to work on JET by Fasoli et al) may require some modifications of “antenna model” in TORIC With upgrade of TORIC to include non-Maxwellian ions, may be possible to study modifications of TAE mode structure and damping due to presence of fast ions With coupling of TORIC to CQL3D in the future, may be able to simulate quasilinear evolution of fast particle modes Collaboration Opportunities: Comparative studies with NSTX, DIII-D and JET
