This IS “The next step” in your lacrosse career! • Play with other girls from the Southern Maryland area • Increase your skill and lacrosse knowledge • Have fun traveling and playing girls from across the country • Get focused for college play if that is your dream • Fastest growing NCAA sport • 103 D1 Schools • 104 D2 Schools • 260 D3Schools • 16 Community Colleges • 263 Club Programs • 4 JetsTeams • Girls from all three Counties!!! • This is JETS 9th season • Many of our Jets girls have taken “The Next Step” and moved on to play at the college level, D1, 2, 3 and Club….they are all very successful!!!! • There is a place for each and every one of you at the next level!!! • WE ARE STILL GROWING and LEARNING!!!!

Important Club Policies • ELITE PLAY - not HS or Rec League • Girls and Families united to achieve together. • You get out of it what you put into it! • Get in shape/stay in shape – you are responsible for your conditioning • Attend all scheduled practices & tournaments • Conduct detrimental to JETS will result in expulsion from the club - player & family. • Plan now for tournaments….your Team is counting on your participation!!! • JETS is your lacrosse Priority!!!!!

Coaches Training • Our coaches Work as a Team • Attend US Lacrosse Coaching Programs • Have been instructed by the Positive Coaching Alliance • Have attended Coaching Clinics and are US Lacrosse Level I and II certified • Our coaches are up to date on the newest and best methods and techniques • We have College Players as Assistants that bring the college perspective to our Teams

Parents, Players • Relax, enjoy & support your athlete’s participation in the sport she loves. • Do not interfere with the coaches or players • Do not coach her from the sidelines • Do not talk to officials • Individual agendas lead to players sitting on the bench or being asked to leave the club. • Players….try and resolve issues with your coach first. If needed…..get your parents involved. • If issue needs to be elevated please contact Coach Mac • Please let coaches coach!!!

  10. Practices • Practice starts on time!!!! • Come early to get ready….if practice starts at 5:30….that means you should have all equipment on and ready to go at 5:30: • Practice pinnies are required for every practice • Stick • Goggles • Sneakers/cleats • Mouth guard • Water bottle • Etc.

Tournament Time! • One Hour Rule or what coach puts out • Bring Uniform, mouth guard, sneakers & cleats, stick and any other equipment YOU need to play • You will not play without proper uniform • Under Your Uniforms • Slider color Black, white under pinnies • Accessories in team colors are allowed (coaches will let you know what is acceptable)

  17. Do’s & Don’t’s • State of Recruiting in 2014! • What To Do When • Recruiting Services - you have Jets & your initiative! • GRADES

  18. Player’s Responsibility not parents • Parents guide and support • Send essential information • Short cover letter • Transcripts/schedule • News articles • HS & Jets Schedules • Coaches recommendation/your profile • Follow up e-mails/or CALLS after 3 weeks • College coaches deal with 100-200 kids • Players respond

  19. Parents Role • On-Line homework, NCAA, .edu’s • Guidance, but player needs to take initiative, no nagging • Visit schools when you travel w/Jets!! • Meet coach, but don’t dominate the conversation • On-Line Homework

  20. Don’t • Send too much info unless asked • Excessive e-mail or calls • Expect coaches to call back immediately • Take up a coaches prime time • Have mom or dad do it!! • Player MUST take the lead!! • Think talent w/o grades is the way to go

  21. 9th & 10th Grades • GRADES!!!!! Get a great start!! • Be a lacrosse “junkie”…..be an official • Play club and do good camps and clinics • Live with your stick!!!! • Play at least one other sport in school • Contact schools by filling out on-line profiles only!!!

  22. 9th Grade • Top 20 schools • Get to a camp on campus, winter, summer or fall!! • Send initial packet out – film not required unless a Varsity starter!!! • If contacted, fill it out, mail it, send e-mails promptly!! • Tracking form – excel spreadsheet with the details (are you academically competitive) • Take PSAT • Consider dropping any other out of season sports like club soccer, field hockey or b-ball (this does not apply to School sports) • Watch College Lacrosse!!!!! (CSTV, ESPNU)

  23. 10th Grade • Refine top 20 schools list • If you know your top 2, get to their college camp • Send updated academic and athletic package • Film summer tournaments or if a Varsity starter, spring film!! • Be honest with your ability, but never stop dreaming. Must take affirmative steps to round out game or athletic ability. • Take SAT’s 2-3 times (Jan, Oct, Nov, Dec(best dates that do not conflict with Lax) get a tutor if you need one), get GREAT grades!!! • Visit campus & arrange to meet the coaches and watch College Lacrosse!!! (During fall & summer) • Attend ALL JETS tournaments

  24. 11th Grade • 1 or 2 camps of the schools you want. • Take SAT’s one more time(if needed)!! • Narrow school list and consider new schools that contact YOU! • Start thinking about official visits

Rising Senior Summer & Senior Year • Stay sharp & continue to play • Live and breath Lax this summer!! • Do all Jets tournaments • No messing around, now time to stay focused • Condition ALL YEAR!!!!! • Official/Unofficial visits • Narrow the field – be honest • Talk once a week to the serious contenders • Applications - #1 school, consider early action • Have a great HS season • Play in the summer before you go to College

  26. College Package • Cover letter • Spell check and be accurate • Cover Lax, School & your life • Profile Page – Resume • Lax Schedules – HS & Jets • HS Transcripts • SAT/ACT • CRITICAL – Coaches Recommendation (HS and Jets)

  27. Take Control!!!!! • Stay organized – Make a plan and work that plan • Ask for advice from coaches, parents and school counselors • Call friends • If you get injured or cut, do you want to stay at that school!!!!
