  4. Purpose of CAHSEE • To improve student achievement in high school • To ensure that graduating high school students can demonstrate competency in reading, writing and mathematics CCCSFAAA Spring Fling Training

  5. Who does CAHSEE affect? • High school students in the Class of 2006 and beyond • Only applicable to public schools, not private • SB 517 provides a one-year CAHSEE exemption for certain students with disabilities in the Class of 2006 CCCSFAAA Spring Fling Training

  6. What is CAHSEE? • State mandated standardized test • Two parts: English Language Arts (ELA) at 10th grade level; Mathematics at Algebra 1 level • Test adapted for California by ETS (Educational Testing Service) CCCSFAAA Spring Fling Training

  7. What is CAHSEE? • Students who meet ALL other high school graduation requirements * CANNOT graduate without passing CAHSEE *course requirements, credits, GPA CCCSFAAA Spring Fling Training

SB 1383 • Suggested amended language • The student graduated from high school or its equivalent or the student meets the merit criteria for Cal Grant programs (as contained in…references to 3.0, 2.0, 2.4) but has not passed the exit examination required pursuant to Chapter 9 (commencing with Section 60850) Part 33.
