  3. Hero: The Flash-Swinging Slasher

  4. Flash-Swinging Slasher: Overview Main Power: Flight by intercepting light waves Secondary Power: Stronger and faster than a human Secondary Non-Super Power: Trained in hand-to-hand combat, wields sword. Main Weaknesses: Limited strategic planning ability, very little precision, low energy.

  5. Flash-Swinging Slasher: Background A member of the species hyoomin from the planet hetrae, he was friendless and lonely. On his planet, he was the ugly duckling, shunned by society. Life there was, to him, not worth living, so he left. After hijacking a interstellar ship, he traveled as far as the fuel would take him, then found the nearest sign of life. He landed on earth in the still young country of America, and was immediately revered as a man of immaculate beauty. With a long hyoomin lifespan, he has remained on earth as a hero since 1820, adopting the alias The Flash-Swinging Slasher.

  6. Flash-Swinging Slasher: Power Specifications Flight: Like all hyoomins, Slasher is able to fly. As light in the form of electromagnetic waves hits the earth and bounces off, his body intercepts those waves and he can dance around on them. His maximum flight speed on a sunny day has been recorded as 88 miles per hour. Strength and Speed: His foreign physiology and home planet with a strong gravitational field means that here on earth, Slasher is stronger and faster than any human could be. He can bench press as much as two tons and run at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.

  7. Flash-Swinging Slasher: Power Specifications Combat: Since arriving on earth, Slasher has spent a large amount of time training in combat. He has experience in everything from fencing to KravMaga and wields a sword. Weakness: Back home, he was not only ugly but also quite thick. His limited intelligence takes a toll on his strategic planning ability. Weakness: With such strength and speed, Slasher has little to no precision. Never let him hold your baby, he might crush it on accident. Weakness: Since his home planet had higher atmospheric oxygen concentration, he can run out of breath very quickly in the thin earth air.

  11. Mind Sculptor: Overview Power Grid Main power: Sensory manipulation by controlling small electrical impulses in the brain of the target. Secondary power: Non-Newtonian skin. Main weakness: limited strength and speed, poor combat skills. Vulnerable to physical attacks at close range.

Mind Sculptor: Background An average woman and single mother of two, coming out of a bad divorce with limited funds, Tracy volunteered to be a test subject for some borderline illegal medical procedures in order to earn some money. The trial did not go as expected and resulted in the amplification of some of her motherly traits: Tracy learned to be very intuitive of her children’s thought processes and interpretations of their surroundings, so post-operation, she gained the ability to manipulate another’s senses. She also became somewhat less sensitive to pain from all those times she inadvertently stepped on Legos or had a variety of toys thrown at her. The operation intensified this property by making her skin into a non-newtonian form, forming a great defense. When she realized she had these abilities, she swore to use them to protect her own and all the world’s children.

  13. Mind Sculptor: Power Specifications Sensory Manipulation: By creating and altering electrical impulses in the brain, Mind Sculptor can alter what the target is sensing. She can only focus this power on one person at a time and must be within 20 feet of the target. Non-Newtonian Skin: Mind Sculptor’s skin is similar to the consistency of a water and corn starch solution, in that it hardens when hit with speed, but can stay in the solid form of her figure. She is mostly impervious to slashing or punching, but vulnerable to slower attacks.

  14. Mind Sculptor: Power Specifications Weakness: Mind Sculptor has the capabilities of a typical woman, which means limited strength and speed and poor combat skills. She is vulnerable to physical attacks at close range if they are moving slow enough. Weakness: Being a part-time superhero and a full-time supermom, she does her best to be home to tuck her kids into bed and to make them breakfast in the morning, taking time from her schedule of villain-fighting.

Mind Sculptor: Physics • The maximum force that Mind Sculptor’s non-newtonian skin can withstand is approximately the force of Slasher swinging his sword. • Formulas and Knowns: • Kinetic Energy = ½ mv2 • Power = Force × velocity • Force of sword = 2250 Newtons • Sword mass = 5.0 kg • Sword velocity = 45.0 m/s

Mind Sculptor: Physics Kinetic Energy = ½ mv2= ½ (5)(452) KE = 5063 Joules Power = Force × velocity = 2250 × 45.0 = 101250 W ≈ 101.3 kW≈ 2.5 times the power output of a typical automobile But to withstand this force, the object must be travelling at a speed greater than 1 m/s. Very-slow-moving objects can penetrate the skin.

  18. Sonic Lightning: Overview Main Power: Powerful, destructive bursts of electricity Secondary Power: Ability to screech at such a high frequency and volume that can incapacitate others Main Weakness: Vulnerable to direct physical attacks, not physically strong

  19. Sonic Lightning: Background Born a mage, she was raised in isolation by others like her. At a young age she learned to develop her powers, based in sound and electricity, and was educated at an accelerated rate and became very intelligent. She was also taught that she and the other mages were superior to typical humans, who remain largely unaware of their existence and are a plague on the earth. At age 18, her clan’s territory was invaded and destroyed by humans who believed them to work with the forces of the devil. Almost all of the clan was killed. She, as one of the only survivors, swore revenge under the name Sonic Lightning.

Sonic Lightning: Power Specifications Electrokinesis: Sonic Lightning is able to produce powerful bursts of electricity by controlling the location of positive and negative energies near her body. These electric strikes are similar in power to very small bolts of lightning. She can strike, although with very low precision, up to 100 yards away from herself. Each strike requires energy and concentration to perform, so their frequency is limited. Just as hair stands up due to static, when performing a large electricity strike, she may begin to float a few inches off the ground.

  21. Sonic Lightning: Power Specifications Screech: As a secondary power that requires less energy, Sonic Lightning has the ability to vocalize a high-pitched, extremely loud sound. This can mildly incapacitate any creature with ears similar to a human’s, within a radius of about 300 yards. Weakness: Although educated and trained in the specific areas of her powers, which are long-range, Sonic Lightning has little to no experience with hand-to-hand combat. She is nimble but is not strong, and she is very vulnerable to physical attacks just as an average human would be.

Sonic Lightning: Physics • Formulas and known values: • Average bolt of lightning: ≈5×108 J and ≈30 kA over ≈.2 seconds • To kill a human: ≈2000 V and ≈6 A over ≈30 seconds • Ohm’s Law: P = VI (power = voltage × current) • P = 2000 V × 6 A = 12000 W = 12 kW • Energy = Power×time = 12000 W × 30 s = 360000 J= 360 kJ = 3.6 × 105 J= .072% of the energy of a bolt of lightning

  23. Sonic Lightning: Physics What about a strike of 1.21 jiggawatts (gigawatts)? This is Sonic Lightning’s maximum power. Average lightning strike: P = E/t = 5×108 J / .2 s = 2.5 × 109 W= 2.5 gigawatts Sonic Lightning’s strongest strike: about half the power of an average lightning bolt, but more than enough to prove fatal to a human, especially if she uses a lower energy over a longer period of time.

  25. Pond Scum: Overview Power Grid Main power: Ability to increase or decrease the level of moisture of an object or area. Secondary power: Ability to cause carnivorous slime-like algae to grow on wet surfaces. Main weakness: Not skilled in combat, powers become more limited in dry environment.

  26. Pond Scum: Background While researching marine life in Louisiana marshland, he happened upon some sort of spillage leaking into the water. Curious, he approached to investigate and discovered that there was a large amount of radioactive material in the swamp. He saw the bodies of dead frogs and bugs around the spill and knew he should back away, but was not quick enough. The exposure to the mysterious radiation while knee-deep in the marsh led to some strange transformations. He swore revenge on the human race, under the title Pond Scum, for polluting the planet and ruining his life.

  27. Pond Scum: Power Specifications Moistness: Pond Scum has the ability to increase or decrease the saturation of water within close distance, about 30 feet maximum. He does this by displacing the water that is already present within that range, whether it is liquid, solid, or gas. Walls Ooze Green Slime: He also has the ability to spawn a species of green, slimy algae-like substance on areas that are wet enough. He must come in contact with the surface to do so. The algae is carnivorous and will slowly eat away organic material, like flesh.

  28. Pond Scum: Power Specifications Speed: Pond Scum seems to have the water-like ability to move quickly and fluidly. Weakness: Retaining the strength of a typical human, he may be fast but he is not powerful and is not skilled in combat. He is vulnerable to physical attacks. Weakness: Because his ability to adjust moistness requires water to already to be present within the area, this power is not very effective in dry environments.
