  4. Background • Only Catholic Sixth Form College in Wales • Recent inspection rated our ILP as “Sector Leading” • 1500 students • Other college supporting Cardiff 25000 students • Brand Values: Ethos & Pastoral Care

Why develop a Parent Portal? • Parent Portal – A pastoral demand • Existing Reporting Strategy • 1 Statistical report per year • 1 Written report per year • Parents evenings to coincide with reports home • At-risk evening. • Proposed Strategy • Continuous Reporting & Assessment • Avoids peak reporting periods • Informs personal tutors of student failure early • Pro-active parental involvement

  9. Key Priorities • Parents are aware of student performance at all times • Learners, Parents & Staff all viewing the same data • No extra work required by curriculum & pastoral staff • Minimal input by MIS staff • Reduce administrative burden (Reports home)

Implementation • Phased initial implementation • No problems reported by parents during first phase or full deployment • Messaging direct to personal tutor bypasses MIS / Admin • Increased communication between parents and personal tutors • Duplication between parent portal and traditional reports • Parents of at-risk students targeted for Parent Portal registration

Areas for development • Enhance contact log to include external communications • Enable direct communication to teaching staff as well as pastoral staff • Create “Front Sheet” reportset • Implement Document Management System • Investigate parental survey facility • Parent Portal App? • Stop sending reports home

What is UNIT-e Parent Portal? • New program for parents / guardians • Designed to give parent/guardian web access to information about their dependents. • Eases College Administration burden • Customisable to match the ‘local needs’ of the College. • Improves the image of the College in the ‘local community’. UNIT-e Parent Portal- powerful and flexible access to information- secure to ensure correct access

What do Parents and the College get from the Portal? • Early identification of non attendance by children • Immediate Notification of Examination dates and any changes • Identification of course work trends to help expose any underlying issues that need managing • Real time timetable information without need for additional notification. • Removes the need and cost for constant mailings to parents. Areas for Development • Email/SMS texting messaging of authorisation codes to parents • Currently authorisation codes have to be sent by mail • Report formats and flexibility • To allow clients to add their own reports • Open up reporting for Reporting Services (as well as Report List Views) • Online Registration for parents and requests to link to students • This will required an ‘online parent stranger mapping’ to merge duplicates • Landing Page Announcements • Document upload (e.g. Principal’s Newsletter/Calendar for year) • ‘scrolling’ Newsflashes/general announcements • Other standard reports • Qualifications of entry • Exam results • Enrolment results (past/current with outcomes and grades)
