Point Of View • Point of view refers to who is telling or narrating a story. • A story can be told from the first person,second person or third personpoint of view (POV). • Writers use POV to express the personal emotions of either themselves or their characters
First Person • A character in the story tells the story • Uses “I” or “ me ” or “ my ” Example: I couldn’t wait to start my trip! I grabbed my bags and headed to the space station!
Third Person • a narrator outside of the story tells the story • uses “he” or “she” or “they” Example: The alien was so excited to take a trip! He packed his things and headed to the space station.
Third Person Limited • a narrator outside of the story tells the story • uses “he” , “she” or “they” • the narrator knows what ONE character thinks and feels. • Perspective is limited Example: The alien was so excited to take a trip! He packed his things and headed to the space station.
Third Person Omniscient • a narrator outside of the story tells the story • the narrator knows what the characters are thinking Example: The alien was so excited to take a trip! He started to walk, thinking about visiting his friend, the martian. The martian was at the space station, waiting happily for the alien to arrive.
