2. Summary ‘All Summer in a Day’ is a science fiction story that takes place in Venus. The story is about how it rains consistently except for every seven years for one hour the sun comes out. At the schoolhouse the native children have never seen the sun before, all except one. Her name was Margot. The native children dislike her so right before the sun comes out for one hour, they lock her in the closet. One hour later, the children realize they have left Margot in the closet and she would now never see the sun again for another seven years.

3. Focus Question • What is the effect of consistent rain on human nature?

4. Exposition On Venus it rains twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. Except for every seven years, for one hour the sun comes out.

5. Exposition On Venus, the native children are in school, waiting for the sun to arrive. None of them have ever seen it except for one, and her name was Margot. The other children were mean to Margot because she didn’t want to play with them. They were also jealous of her because she had seen the sun and they hadn’t.

6. Rising action One boy named William convinced the other children to lock Margot in the closet.

7. Climax/Turning point Then the sun came out and the children went outside, leaving Margot in the closet.

8. Falling action • The falling action happened when the children realized what they have done was horrible and they felt remorse.
